Teacher of English

Teaching Personnel are currently working alongside multiple secondary schools in the Llanelli area who are looking for support from an English Teacher.

A Secondary English Teacher is responsible for teaching English to pupils in Key Stages 3 and 4 (aged 11 to 16 years). The job can be rewarding, working with young people at an age where they are starting to formulate their own ideas and reasoning strategies while studying English. A Secondary English Teacher will also be preparing pupils for their GCSE exams.

What will the role involve?

• Keeping a register of pupils’ attendance, set assignments and homework, mark pupils work, record completion, write progress reports and carry out continuous assessment.
• You will plan English lessons to meet the national curriculum guidance, working with colleagues to coordinate lessons as needed, and giving direction to Teaching Assistants (TAs). Each class should include a balance of appropriate instruction, demonstration, and practice, using suitable activities to give pupils the maximum opportunity to learn.
• Maintaining order amongst your pupils by enforcing rules for good behaviour.
• It is also important to ensure the classroom is a safe environment where safeguarding procedures are followed and rules for behaviour are established and enforced as needed.
• If required, give feedback to any relevant external bodies concerning the progress, behaviour, and child protection issues.

The ideal candidate will:

• Hold a valid driving licence with access to own vehicle.
• Are a Qualified Teacher or in the process of gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Excellent knowledge of English as a National Curriculum subject.
• Have experience of teaching English
• Excellent communication skills to engage with pupils.
• Be able to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain positive relationships with all staff.
• Be able to communicate positively with parents, carers and other external agencies where necessary.
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
• Commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children.
• You must also have a fluent level of spoken and written English and pass an enhanced background (DBS) check.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
