Senior Counsel - UK, Middle East, Africa

Based out of London or Melksham

Hybrid working

Reporting to the US-based Deputy General Counsel, the Head of Legal, UK, Middle East and Africa will be a core member of the global Legal & Compliance team with accountability for internal and external legal resources in support of the UK, Middle East and Africa and other jurisdictions identified from time to time, at a time of significant transformation and the opportunity for sustained, long term growth. 

This role will act as a proactive, strategic partner to the business, evidencing an approach that is both highly business literate and passionate about delivering on a commitment to excellence with measurable business impact. 

The candidate must bring a positive attitude, high energy and enthusiasm and confidence in handling complex and ambiguous legal issues. 

They must also demonstrate a direct, transparent and concise approach, exceptional communication, and a well-organised planner with strong analytical skills. 

Essential Functions: 

As a member of the global Legal & Compliance team, the Head of Legal, UK, Middle East and Africa will support the Deputy General Counsel and the rest of the International team in the delivery of risk-based, commercially focused and pragmatic legal advice to the International business and its global portfolio of subsidiaries, brands and contract, retail and e-commerce distribution channels. 

The position will also: 

Ensure the high-quality and timely delivery of legal, regulatory, corporate governance, compliance advice and general legal support for the International business in the relevant regions. 

Areas of responsibility include: commercial transactions, distribution issues, retail issues, subsidiary governance, mergers and acquisitions, litigation management, training, competition and data privacy. 

The role will: 

Partner with the employment, compliance, and intellectual property subject matter experts, in addition to HR, Business Risk, to support issues as needed. 

Support and coordinate with the International Legal team (5 other lawyer/legal professionals based in India, Italy, China and Denmark) and help the Deputy General Counsel move to a more matrixed approach to delivery of legal services.
