Job summary

:

Working under the directsupervision of the Practice Nurse Manager and strictly in accordance with specificpractice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performingvenepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients only as the result of adirect referral from a GP or consultant.

Approx. 1 session per week will bededicated to diabetes administration. (Monday pm)

Duties andresponsibilities:

Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable andrelaxed as possible and confirmingtheir agreement to the collection of a blood sample.

Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordancewith training and procedures.

Ensuring samples are stored in appropriatecontainers.

Accurate, legible labelling of all samples toconfirm patient identity.

Checking patient identification againstGP/Consultant request and confirming with the patient.

Recording collection of blood sample in the patientrecord in accordance with the practiceprocedure.

Ensuring that samples are dispatched to theappropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.

Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a seniormember of staff.

Notifying the GP/nurse of any significantpatient issues.

Administration of diabetic recalls

The post-holder will participatein any training programme implemented by thePractice as part of thisemployment, such training to include:

Mandatory training such as basiclife support and fire training

Taking responsibility for owndevelopment, learning and performance anddemonstrating skills andactivities to others who are undertaking similar work.

* GCSE Grade A to C in English and Maths * Experience of working as a Phlebotomist for min. 1 year

Desirable

* Experience of patient/customer facing role * NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
