Job summary

The Security and Bed watching team offer additional support across all wards and departments for patients who may require additional support for a number of reasons including, unfamiliar surroundings, medication or their mental health or challenging behaviour needs.

The team will usually work with patients on a 1-1 basis.

The post holder will provide supervision to patients who have been assessed as needing additional support on the wards due to acute confusion (including Alzheimer's and Dementia), mental health conditions, challenging behaviour or physical health conditions which are affecting compromising the safety of the patient and/or others

Main duties of the job

This role exists to facilitate the safety of service users under the Mental Health Act, maintaining a safe, caring, professional and efficient level of service using responsible business practices within a healthcare environment at all times. The team will take direction from the Clinical Lead when on shift and be supported, nurtured and managed by the EF&CP Team to maintain high standards of quality and professionalism.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Provide patient care and assessment of need

Provide a safe and welcoming environment for patients and their families

Demonstrate basic understanding of anatomy and physiology

Communicate and report any changes in a patients physical or mental health condition

Provide and maintain a high standard of care to all patients at all times, ensuring the dignity and self-esteem of the patient is preserved

Communicate appropriately and effectively with a wide age range of patients across the childrens and adult services

Promote and maintain patient confidentiality at all times, only providing patient/client information under the guidance and supervision of a Registered Nurse

Person Specification

Education and Training

Essential

SIA License or equivalent training / experience Customer care NVQ 3 or equivalent GCSE or similar in English and Maths

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Good standard of literacy and numeracy Excellent communication skills Knowledge and experience in safeguarding adults and children Effective interpersonal skills Knowledge of principles of confidentiality Basic understanding of anatomy and physiology Good working knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act Ability to prioritise own time and workload Good working knowledge of Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 / Data Protection Act 1998 / Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 & Common Law Fully conversant in the security standards in place IT Literate Ability to working on an often challenging environment Ability to act on own initiative in relation to delivering essential patient care

Experience
