Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic individual to take on this fixed term role as the Assistant Service Manager for T&O. This is an exciting opportunity to support this fast paced service.

The successful candidate will be able to strengthen and maintain strong working relationships with all key stakeholders

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Service Manager to ensure that the service is meeting all performance requirements, including quality and activity targets. They will assist with close monitoring and escalation of potential risks to delivery of key performance measures such as 18 week waits, clinical correspondence turnaround times and follow up waiting lists.

They will line manage the secretarial team and deputise for the Service Manager. They should be resilient, motivated, organised, work well under pressure and have excellent communication skills.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Support the Service Manager and clinical service line on a day to day basis.

Managing and co-ordinating the medical workforce within T&O

Work alongside the medical staffing team to ensure all level of medical rotas meet service need

To develop, implement and maintain robust systems and processes for managing the medical workforce in T&O

Managing the review and approval of timesheets and extra duty claims

To work with finance and human resources to regularly reconcile actual to planned expenditure and to ensure accurate payment of medical staff.

Development and maintenance of action logs for executive service line reviews and service line business meetings

To be responsible for the day to day co-ordination of the Theatre schedule for T&O

To maintain service delivery timetables to ensure all clinical requirements can be met

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

Further qualifications demonstrating numeric knowledge

Experience of staff supervision and staff management Experience of managing the delivery of an effective service demonstrating the following: o Evidence of introducing and supporting change processes o Evidence of positively influencing organisational culture o Evidence of supporting service improvement projects

Desirable

Experience of working in an acute NHS Trust Evidence of establishing, maintaining and consolidating effective working relationships with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams

Communication and Personal Characteristics

Excellent interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills
