Job overview

The post holder will join a well-established Psychology Service serving the people of Havering with a psychotic diagnosis and their families, as well as those with other secondary care mental health diagnosis. The post holder will provide assessment and evidence-based interventions for this client group including individual, group, and family work. The post holder will be expected to work closely with multidisciplinary teams and offer support and supervision on psychological approaches to working with psychosis as well as holding a small caseload of clients with other secondary care mental health diagnosis.

The post holder will offer specialist supervision to more junior psychologists and MDT staff involved in the delivery of psychological interventions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to play a role in developing the skills of the team in relation to these interventions, and to service improvement more generally

The post will suit enthusiastic psychologists with an interest in developing their skills in applying evidence-based psychological therapies with a secondary care mental health client group and working with multi-disciplinary teams.

The post holder will be part of a well-established and supportive psychological therapies service.

The post holder will be expected to participate in supervision and CPD focused on evidence-based interventions in psychosis.

The post holder will receive individual supervision and group supervision in CBT for psychosis and in Family Intervention. The service has practitioners interested in ACT, compassion based therapies, EMDR amongst other approaches.

The Trust has strong links with the UCL, UEL and Royal Holloway clinical psychology courses and several Counselling Psychology courses and the post holder will be expected to supervise trainee psychologists when appropriate. Current members of the department are engaged in teaching and research projects with local clinical training courses.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 pro rata for part time).

High Cost Area Supplement - Fringe

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,192 to a maximum of £2,011 pro rata for part time).

Working with people with complex mental health needs to include psychosis Assessment and treatment planning for clients with complex needs, including psychosis Experience of delivering evidence-based interventions for families coping with psychosis.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Thorough knowledge of the theory and practice of evidence-based interventions for psychosis Knowledge of the theory and practice of evidence-based approaches to working with families and carers where someone is experiencing psychosis Theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for a broad range of complex difficulties ( enduring depression, psychosis, dual diagnoses, psychological aspects of physical health problems etc.)

Desirable criteria

Knowledge and experience with working with safeguarding issues, issues concerning risk and highly complex mental health problems.

Skills

Essential criteria

Well-developed knowledge and skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management. Evidence of being able to use computers to a good standard, including the use of Word, Excel & Power-point presentations Well-developed interpersonal skills especially when handling conflict and change Ability to explore emotionally demanding aspects of the role with appropriate staff in both managerial and clinical supervision as well as in team meetings and informal work related support system.

Capacity to work psychotherapeutically on a one to one basis with a person with severe and enduring mental health problems and who is experiencing severe psychological distress. Capacity to contain and ‘hold’ the stress of others exposed to highly distressing situations or highly emotional circumstances, including severely challenging behaviours. Highly skilled at collaborative working and providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
