Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Psychological practitioner to be part of a psychological intervention team offering a range of therapies to those presenting with significant mental health difficulties as part of a community adult multi-disciplinary team (MDT). We would welcome those considering a preceptorship/ developmental opportunity.

We have clinical pathways for Psychosis, Complex Emotional Difficulties (including Personality Disorder) and other presentations (such as Bipolar, OCD, PTSD, Severe Depression and Anxieties). We work alongside a range of specialist, NHS and third sector services, such as for those presenting with an Eating Disorder or First Episode Psychosis.

North Cumbria has two Community Treatment Team/ CTTs, which offer Community Mental Health to adults within the region, and have flexibility such that the successful candidate will be able to consider their preferred base, with most staff for the two teams based in Carlisle. We offer evidence-based treatments to those within our service, such as CBT and FI to those presenting with a psychosis and have a well-established pathway incorporating SCM and MBT for those presenting with needs relating to their personality. We are open to evidence-based therapies that would best serve our population. You will be working alongside committed psychological therapies staff, supported by a dedicated and experienced MDT, with strong, progressive and supportive leadership from senior psychological staff.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder is responsible for providing a qualified specialist psychological therapy to clients, providing specialist psychological assessment, formulation and therapeutic interventions. This is in addition to offering clinical supervision, advice and consultation to colleagues, and others on psychological aspects of evidence-based assessment, formulation, care and post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that high quality individualised care is delivered, which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery and wellbeing and maximising post-holder will provide clinical supervision and clinical consultation/ advice in accordance with service post-holder will take a lead role for psychological treatments in the pathway, including responsibility for checking adherence to NICE guidance through clinical supervision and post-holder will provide compassionate and trauma-informed care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and post-holder will contribute to training on a multi-disciplinary post-holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and other research within the remit of the post-holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.

These improvements will lead to the further development of psychological therapies within the CTTs.

Qualifications

Essential

Doctoral level training in clinical/counselling psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and British Psychological Society. HCPC registered practitioner psychologist

Desirable

Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology

Experience

Essential

Substantial post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings. Demonstrate further specialist training and experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months or an alternative agreed by the Psychological Services Professional Lead. Experience of providing clinical supervision

Desirable

Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management. Specialist skills in evidence based psychological interventions. Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups relevant to the community pathway, personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities. Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing clinical supervision and consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups. Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex multivariable data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology. Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC. Formal training in clinical supervision of trainee clinical psychologists and other staff. Skills in managing emotional impact of dealing with highly emotive and distressing situations through self-management and use of the clinical supervision process.

Desirable

Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health. Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multimedia materials for presentations within public, professional and academic settings. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure of highly emotive behaviour. Able to meet the travel demands of the post.
