Job summary

Surgical Day Case unit Provides pre and post operative care across a range of specialities including; Gynaecology, Ear Nose and Throat, UGI and Dental.

Care is delivered at the highest standard and patient experience is paramount within our team.

Our hours of service are Monday- Friday

The post holder will work with the ward sister/charge nurse and multidisciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care and staff development, as part of the ward team.

To be flexible in approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties are:

Pre and Post Operative care to patients from different specialities. Following a criteria lead discharge ILS trained Administering medications Escalating deteriorating patients Providing health education, post operative advice. Liaising with other teams and departments. Providing holistic care. Mentoring Students

Qualifications and Training

Essential

Level or relevant children's qualification Current NMC Registration

Desirable

Training Qualification or equivalent experience Relevant post registration course

Skills and Abilities

Essential

Good basic level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to solve problems and use initiative Ability to develop own clinical skills and a willingness to participate in continuing professional development Competency in medication administration including IV drug administration or willingness to undergo training Basic IT skills ( Microsoft packages) Ability to take the lead, initiate and ensure appropriate action in response to the deteriorating patient Interpersonal skills - Calm - Supportive - Motivated - Professional Willingness to develop teaching skills Able to prioritise and meet deadlines Able to manage difficult situations Awareness of audit & research Self-motivated A team player Recognition of own limits Flexible working practices for 24 hour service General good health, Able to work on feet for long periods. Aware that the role can be stressful and emotional at times.
