Trainee First Contact Practitioner
Job summary
As part of the NHS Long-Term Plan and the strategic direction of NEAS, an exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced paramedics to develop an advanced clinical career.
The Trainee First Contact Practitioner (FCP) role is new to NEAS and will provide an opportunity for clinicians to develop skills and experience across several healthcare disciplines as part of a 'Rotational' working model. If you are interested in a new challenge at NEAS, we are inviting applications from experienced paramedics who are forward thinking, confident, enthusiastic and have a positive approach to teamwork.
This rotation incorporates elements of (i) rapid response to urgent and emergency incidents, (ii) working within 'Out of Hours' Services, (iii) supporting Primary Care daytime work in a dedicated Primary Care Network (PCN), and (iv) telephone assessment working as part of a team of Clinicians in the Clinical Advisory Service (CAS). You will develop advanced clinical history taking and examination skills to ensure that all patients receive an exceptional level of care. This will include chronic disease management, advanced mental health assessment, end-of-life care management, and paediatric care.
Candidates must be a Registered Paramedic, with a minimum of 5 years' experience post-qualifying and possess the enthusiasm and motivation required to undertake a demanding yet rewarding role.
Main duties of the job
This role forms part of a career pathway. It is a transition role wherein anyone undertaking the Trainee FCP position is intended within 12 months to have completed stage 1 and stage 2 of the HEE competency framework to transition into a full FCP Paramedic, working to AfC Band 7. The next stage on the career pathway for those who are interested, and who meet the criteria, is an Advanced Clinical Practitioner role, working to AfC band 8a.
Everyone at NEAS plays an important role in making sure patients get the right treatment and care as quickly as possible. This is a rapidly developing service working in an exciting, often challenging environment with immense job satisfaction. This post specifically will offer the opportunity to work in new and innovative ways in collaboration with other healthcare provides including Primary Care.
About us
We employ 3,500 staff in 63 locations and serve a population of 2,600,000 in Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, County Durham, and Tees over 3230 square miles.
Many people think the job of the ambulance service is to collect patients and take them to hospital, but we do much more
Paramedic skills have developed hugely in recent years, meaning we carry out more treatment at the scene and en-route to hospital.
We have a dedicated clinical assessment service that allows us to provide patients with the most appropriate care from the beginning of the patient journey.
We have a specialised branch of the Trust called HART which deal with explosions or terrorist attacks.
Ultimately patients are the heart of everything that we do to support our mission of "safe, effective and responsive care for all".
We value and respect the diversity employees bring to our workplace. We recruit a workforce that reflects the community we serve, and welcome applications from people from all backgrounds. To ensure we deliver on our aims in relation to diversity and inclusion we assess ourselves against a range of frameworks. We are ENEI Gold employer, Disability Confident Leader, Dyslexia Smart Award employer, Dementia Friendly, and part of Mind Blue Light programme and the Race at Work Charter from the Princes Responsible Business Network and are achieving across all objectives in NHS Equality Delivery System.
