Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust within the Acute Oncology & Rapid Diagnostic Team. AOS care for inpatients presenting with concerning symptoms suggestive of cancer/known cancer. RDC manage outpatients with non-specific symptoms and exclude/ make a cancer diagnosis in the first instance and then refer on to other specialties as required.
This role will develop the post holder towards providing expert level cancer diagnostic and treatment experience and support potential future ANP role development.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be an experienced nurse, acting within their professional boundaries with work experience in an oncology capacity; they will provide care for the presenting patient, demonstrating safe clinical decision-making. They will work collaboratively with the AOS & RDC team, cancer services and primary care.
About us
The AOS team ensure provision of expert nurse advice, support and information to patients admitted as a result of their cancer treatment and/or suspected cancer.
The RDC supports established TWR pathways by aiming to exclude a cancer diagnosis within 28 days in patients presenting with non-specific symptoms which require a more holistic diagnostic approach. The onus of the service is to confirm/exclude a cancer diagnosis as soon as practicable and ideally within 28 days.

The post holder will act as the key worker to all suspected and diagnosed AOS & RDC patients and using excellent communications skills, provide holistic patient-centred assessment and care.
Provide psychological support and care, advice, information for patients and carers/families.
Have the ability to work autonomously and independently but within a collaborative integrated team.
