An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Clinical Fellow to undertake a fixed term 12 month post in Palliative Medicine with effect from August 2024 to August 2025. This post will participate on the on call rota and although not recognised for training will have opportunities to attend teaching, participate in audit and QI projects where possible.

The post is joining an MDT consisting of Consultants, a Specialist Grade, Specialist Registrars or Specialty Trainees, Speciality Doctors and a number of junior medical staff responsible for the provision of Specialist Palliative Medicine services to the Health Board. The role could deliver a broad range of experience in Specialist Palliative Care, and could provide the post holder a stepping stone to a career in Palliative Medicine.

The post holder will further foster the development of multidisciplinary team working across the Health Board. The clinical role of this post is expected to be specialist palliative care in the hospital setting, with the candidate getting additional experience of speciality work in all settings.

There may be opportunity to also appoint to a further post that incorporates a Clinical Tutor Role, this will be confirmed subject to funding.

Main duties of the job

The Post Holder will:-

Together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of Specialist Palliative Care to the Swansea Bay University Health Board and for the community it serves 24/7 Primarily provide medical support to the Specialist Inpatient Unit and Community Specialist Palliative Care Teams, under consultant supervision. However there may be an opportunity or need to support the delivery of Hospital Palliative Care. When appropriate, carryout assessment of patients in the specialist outpatient setting or in the community. Ensure availability and accessibility. Within the level of their competency, aim to provide telephone advice on specialist palliative care to primary and secondary care teams for the SBU HB population (in liaison with the consultant). Work with colleagues in primary and secondary care to provide effective symptom control, appropriate rehabilitation and terminal care for patients within the hospital and community. Have continuing responsibility for the care of patients under his or her care, allowing for proper delegation to, and training of, staff. Have responsibility for the proper functioning of the department in line with the operational policies of the Health Board.

Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practises from, the GMC at the intended start date Have evidence of achievement of foundation competences from a UKFPO-affiliated foundation programme or equivalent, by time of application in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice Be eligible to work in the UK Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date
