Position Summary

We are seeking to hire a Senior Analyst to join our Exposure and Catastrophe Management (ECM) team in London

The role will support the underwriters and the business by providing Catastrophe Modelling output & knowledge, enabling Underwriters to form risk-taking decisions on the highest quality information thus ensuring exposures are modelled & managed accurately.

Key Responsibilities

Catastrophe Modelling:

Provide pre and post-bind catastrophe modelling analysis for all relevant classes of business, ensuring a timely and accurate service in line with business needs.  Produce monthly portfolio packs for relevant classes of business that contain all of the information the underwriting and management teams need to review their book of business, including, but not limited to, EP curves, RDS exposures, AAL contribution. Ensure results are reviewed with underwriters and management. Provide class level summary information for the Exposure & Catastrophe Management Group. Understand and interpret slips to ascertain key modelling assumptions, and ensure completeness of data, liaising with brokers and other third parties to supplement where necessary. Contribute towards catastrophe response, providing modelled and aggregate exposure numbers to the ERM group as requested and working closely with group-wide colleagues to ensure a timely and accurate response is produced. Support the implementation of APIs into the Catastrophe modelling and aggregate entry workflow, ensuring workflow is optimised and any changes requires are identified and included within the annual improvement cycle. Support the development of tools to assist with the optimisation of the portfolio Assist with data preparation for submission to Reinsurers and Brokers as required. Able to interpret applicable reinsurance programme structures and model accurately; including explaining resultant output to all parties. Able to advise the business on the application of expert judgments to catastrophe modelled results, where required and to maintain accurate records of any expert judgments applied. Assist management with ad hoc CAT modelling and/or exposure management projects

Functional:

Maintain all catastrophe modelling and aggregate records accurately and efficiently, ensuring that all appropriate data deficiencies and expert judgments are recorded and signed off by the business Contribute towards Catastrophe model validation and evaluation of model vendors including undertaking sensitivity analysis and back testing. Keeping up to date with events as they occur and contribute to event response work, including identification of exposures and communication of this to the relevant audience Undertake peer reviews on a regular basis; provide feedback and ongoing support as required Support modelling system upgrade testing process as required to ensure new releases comply with functionality and operational requirements including producing documentation as required Comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and ensure, at a level appropriate to the position, that appropriate measures are in place to ensure this compliance Actively participate at various internal and external meetings and committees ensuring that CNA Hardy is suitably represented Work proactively and independently with underwriters and the business on ECM matters. May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Good knowledge of atmospheric and geological phenomenon, damageability of structures and respective risks Understanding of insurance principles, in-depth knowledge of Lloyd’s D&F business an advantage. Understanding of Lloyd’s returns, such as RDS and LCM5 an advantage. Mathematical and statistical ability Ability to use appropriate systems to the technical level required, in depth knowledge of Verisk EES models an advantage. Demonstrated understanding of business objectives and the market in which we operate Ability to plan and organise own role effectively Understanding of the impact of the insurance industry that natural/ man-made phenomenon can have Strong understanding of risk management and governance framework and how own role fits into it Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills Effective communication and rapport building skills Intellectual curiosity Good understanding of aggregating risks Completion of ALMI or equivalent - or willingness to undertake further relevant learning Appropriate knowledge of all relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the position
