An opportunity has arisen for an Minor Illness practice Nurse to join our friendly team. We are a busy Practice in Hertfordshire, we comprise of 4 partners; have a friendly and supportive team of reception and admin staff, and a skilled nursing team who support the partners in caring for a population of 1300 + patients. We are a SystmOne practice.

We are looking for a permanent part time Practice Nurse who is enthusiastic and committed to providing good quality health care and who would like to join our friendly practice team.

The Practice Nurse will see patients, they will treat, and review, referring as necessary. They will also undertake a role in managing long term conditions and work within a multi-disciplinary team to prevent unplanned hospital admissions.

It is envisaged that the post-holder will expand their role in accordance with practice requirements and their own scope of practice.

The salary we offer will be dependent upon experience.

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients in line with current evidence based guidelines as well as providing Minor ill assistance to the Doctors and other members of the Primary Healthcare Team.

Job responsibilities

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients in line with current evidence based guidelines as well as providing nursing assistance to the Doctors and other members of the Primary Healthcare Team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1.Clinical

Wound care / ulcer care / Doppler Removal of Sutures / clips Urinalysis ECGs Chronic disease Management such as Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Hypertension, Spirometry Minor illness Ear syringing Cervical cytology smear tests Health Screening Dietary Advice General health advice Routine immunisations / Child Immunisations Routine Injections Contraception Minor injuries Travel Clinic Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician Assisting GPs with minor surgery and coil fittings Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to other nurses or GPs as appropriate Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs Participate in maintaining Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required Reconciliation of controlled drugs in line with current DOH guidelines Undertake housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms keeping a clear work surface culture Ordering of stock to maintain safe stock levels & cash control Ordering of vaccinations to maintain safe stock levels & cash control Participation in administrative systems in the Practice At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate and contemporaneous records A duty to advise Practice manager and Partners of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post Flexibility of working to ensure sufficient cover is provided for nurse holidays/sickness Maintain effective liaison with other agencies & staff concerned with patient care Co-operate & participate as required in any research projects within the practice

2.Special Requirements

An understanding of and adherence to the Qualities and Outcomes framework Ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness and common sense. A commitment to maintain a high professional standard of nursing care and keep up to date with all aspects of nursing care relevant to the post. A commitment to ensure all Health and Safety requirements and Infection Control measures are met and to report any problems to the Practice Manager A commitment to the effective use of Practice and NHS resources. An awareness of own limitations and experience. To work only in accordance with the UKCC Code of Conduct and within the Scope of Professional Practice To have a written professional development plan and to maintain an up to date portfolio which meets the requirements of registration with the UKCC Cooperate with annual appraisal meetings Membership of the RCN

They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the Practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the Practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data

5. General

To assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks Use appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards Reporting potential risks identified Behave in a manner which is welcoming to the individual, is non-judgmental and respects their circumstances, feelings priorities and rights.
