An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Outpatients Clinical Service Unit (CSU).

We are seeking two exceptional dedicated nurses with the drive and passion to provide and maintain the highest standards of patient care and the experience of both patients and staff alike.

The Outpatient CSU services delivered by Nursing and Phlebotomy are situated across 5 sites consisting of 16 Outpatient departments, Phlebotomy Ward service on main sites, 9 Blood rooms (increasing to 11 blood rooms by April 2024) in hospital and community settings and a home visit service.

Main duties of the job

Post 1. Matron for peripheral sites and diagnostics (Phlebotomy)

This post holders areas of responsible are, Wharfedale Outpatients and Seacroft Community Diagnostic and Outpatient service. You will work alongside the Head of Nursing to deliver a number of improvements particularly within phlebotomy service and Community Diagnostics ensuring the consistent delivery of evidence-based, safe and effective nursing care, infection prevention, and safeguarding standards.

Post 2 Matron for Main site Outpatient Nursing

This post holders areas of responsible are 7 departments at LGI and 5 departments at SJUH. Services in include Renal, General and specialist surgery, Urology, Hands and Plastics, Orthopedics and Cardiac and Neurosciences. You will work alongside the Head of Nursing to deliver several improvements ensuring the consistent delivery of evidence-based, safe and effective nursing care, infection prevention, and safeguarding standards. You will be fully involved in delivering the Hospital of the future with new build for LGI services.

The Matron will also work with Head of Nursing, Outpatient Matron and Clinical Educator to deliver CSU wide initiatives and projects in support of Outpatient Transformation. You will be instrumental in delivering on all aspects of governance, risk, professional and operational leadership in line with the CSU Nursing strategy. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring the consistent delivery of evidence-based, safe and effective nursing care, infection prevention, and safeguarding standards.

The successful candidate will provide compassionate and visible leadership and be able to create a culture of excellence, driving forward service improvements whilst maintaining patient-centered care.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The jobholder will have overall responsibility for the management of nursing and other associated staff and the management of resources/budgets within the nursing and phlebotomy part of CSU. The jobholder will be accountable for ensuring the highest standard of clinical care is provided within the departments for which they are responsible and ensure the principles of clinical governance are implemented at a local level. The jobholder will work in partnership with the facilities department in ensuring high standards of hospital cleanliness is maintained, embracing the principles outlined in the Matrons charter.

The jobholder will be easily identifiable to patients, provide strong leadership through a visible presence and provide support, advice and assistance required by patients, their families and carers. The jobholder will also support the implementation of a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), being a focal point for advice to patients and carers and local resolution of complaints.

In additional to site specific patches, Matron post may also have specific Trustwide elements ( Lead Cancer Nurse). Within locality hospitals the role will also incorporate Hospital Site Management responsibility ( hospital wide communication & Health & Safety).

Current services within the CSU comprise of a number of outpatient and ambulatory care services across 3 hospital sites. The post holder will have responsibility for 235 staff and an annual budget of £7,782,396.

You will be required to have:

At least 2 years at a senior level in nursing

Understanding of specialty ( Desirable )

Experience managing and leading staff

Budgetary management experience

Service development/change management

Registered Nurse (Level 1) or Registered Midwife (as appropriate)

Evidence of Continuing Professional Development over last 3 years

First degree level education
