Job summary
:Thepost-holder will deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary caresetting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered andtemporary patients. Responsibilities will reflect requirements of the NHS GPContracts, and as such may be subject to change as services adapt.
Clinical responsibilities:
In accordance with the practice timetable, asagreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a varietyof duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations andqueries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptionsand dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
Making professional, autonomous decisions inrelation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from otherhealth care workers within the organisation.
Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated andundiagnosed problems.
Screeningpatients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
Developing managementplans for health in consultation with patients and in line with currentpractice disease management protocols.
Providing patientswith support, advice and health education.
Admittingpatients to hospital and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
Recordingclear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
Collectingdata for audit purposes when agreed.
Compiling andissuing electronic acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-writtenprescriptions whenever possible.)
Prescribingin accordance with the Sussex ICB formulary (or generically) whenever this isclinically appropriate.
In general,the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties andresponsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
Weeklyon-call duties pro rata.
Theabovelistofdutiesisnotexhaustiveandmaybesubjecttochangeasdeemednecessary.

In the performance of the duties outlined inthis job description, the post-holder may have access to confidentialinformation relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and otherhealthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to thepractice as a business organisation. All such information from any sourceis to be regarded as strictly confidential.
Information relating to patients, carers,colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may onlybe divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies andprocedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal andsensitive data.

Health& safety:
Thepost-holder will implement and lead on a full range of promotion and managementof their own and others health and safety and infection control as defined inthe practice health & safety policy, the practice health & safetymanual, and the practice infection control policy and published procedures.This will include (but will not be limited to):
Using personal security systems within theworkplace according to practice guidelines.
Awareness of national standards of infectioncontrol and cleanliness and regulatory / contractual / professionalrequirements, and good practice guidelines.
Providing advice on the correct and safemanagement of the specimens process, including collection, labelling,handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transportarrangements.
Correct personal use of Personal ProtectiveEquipment (PPE) and ensuring correct use of PPE by others, advising onappropriate circumstances for use by clinicians, staff and patients.
Management of the full range of infectioncontrol procedures in both routine and extraordinary circumstances (pandemic or individual infectious circumstances.)
Hand hygiene standards for self and others.
Managing directly all incidents of accidentalexposure.
Management and advice relating to infectioncontrol and clinically based patient care protocols, and implementation ofthose protocols across the practice.
Making effective use of training to updateknowledge and skills and initiate and manage the training of others across thefull range of infection control and patient processes.
Monitoring practice facilities and equipmentin relation to infection control, ensuring that proper use is made ofhand-cleansing facilities, wipes etc., and that these are sufficient to ensurea good clinical working environment.
Safe management of sharps use, storage anddisposal.
Maintenance of own clean working environment.
Actively identifying, reporting, andcorrecting health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately whenrecognised.
Undertaking periodic infection controltraining.
Correct waste and instrument management,including handling, segregation, and container use.
Maintenance of sterile environments
Demonstrate due regard forsafeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Personal/professionaldevelopment:
Inaddition to maintaining continued education through attendance at any coursesand/or study days necessary to ensure that professional developmentrequirements for PREP are met, the post-holder will participate in any trainingprogramme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, with suchtraining to include:
Participation in an annual individualperformance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record ofown personal and/or professional development.
Taking responsibility for own development,learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others whoare undertaking similar work.
