Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage the ICB's Impact Accelerator Unit (IAU). The IAU is a partnership venture with the Universities of Bristol (UoB) and West of England (UWE) aimed at embedding new academic research evidence into service delivery.

The IAU facilitates the accelerated uptake of evidence generated by local research studies into the local health and care system, as well as wider regional and national networks.

The IAU team supports Chief Investigators and Research Project Managers at the university with dissemination planning and implementation with a view to making a tangible change in the provision of health and care.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Work alongside the Research Manager on the strategic direction of the IAU.

Oversee the operational delivery of the IAU, including achievement of annually set Key Performance Indicators.

Plan, convene and chair the Impact Accelerator Units regular meetings:

Oversight Group (including university representatives).

Operational Management Group.

Project Delivery Group.

Oversee the portfolio of IAU research study projects:

Oversee the process for establishing, running, and reporting on projects, including use of templates, governance and communication.

Undertake regular check-ins with IAU Project Leads on the progress of each project.

Use initiative and discernment to provide guidance and make decisions on project delivery.

Lead on more complex research study projects.

Plan resource allocation to deliver objectives to agreed timeframes.

Identify areas of strength and areas to develop in terms of skills and knowledge of the IAU Project Team and put in place development opportunities as appropriate.

Identify challenges and problems and work collectively to address them.

Ensure the IAU produces timely Impact Reports for each project for our University Partners.

Support the development of high quality, relevant research funding applications with a focus on their knowledge mobilisation and dissemination plans and budgets.

Advise Research Project Teams on dissemination and implementation plans.

Organise and facilitate knowledge mobilisation events that bring together Integrated Care System (ICS) partners, academics, and members of the public to collaborate around topics of interest to the ICB. These events aim to generate research questions, innovation development and implementation of evidence to improve health and care delivery.

Prepare and present IAU reports to oversight groups.

Write case studies on IAU activities for communication channels such as the Research Team newsletter.

Deliver training to colleagues on the tools and processes used within the IAU to effectively implement evidence within our health and care system.

Stay abreast of national initiatives on innovations relevant to health and care and relevant legislation and/or obligations on Integrated Care Boards with regards innovation. Highlight changes to appropriate personnel/boards within the ICB to ensure that the ICB is up to date with requirements and good practice.

Person Specification

Knowledge, Training and Experience

Essential

Educated to Masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area. Understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy. Experience of managing and performance monitoring a wide range of projects simultaneously. Understanding of Knowledge Mobilisation and/or change management theory. Sound knowledge of a range improvement methodologies.

Desirable

Evidence of continuing professional development. Some understanding of the health and care infrastructure in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Experience of working in a health and care commissioning, planning or integrated care role. Experience of working in health and care research.

Communication skills

Essential

Negotiation, motivational and influencing skills to gain agreement and/or cooperation to overcome barriers to understanding. Excellent oral and written communication. Customer service approach.
