The appointee will be expected to devote the majority of his/her elective work to the endoscopic management of patients with GI problems, including diagnostic endoscopy, with the opportunity to train within the area of therapeutic endoscopy. The appointee will be competent in gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and colonoscopy.

The appointee will be offered the opportunity to train in advanced endoscopy, which may be either in the field of ERCP or EUS. The alternative options include therapeutic upper GI interventions (such as dilation and stenting) or lower GI EMR. The appointee will gain significant experience in colonoscopy.

The exact mix of endoscopy activity will depend on the previous experience and particular training needs of the appointee.

Main duties of the job

It is anticipated that 5 service commitment sessions of endoscopy will be undertaken with 2-3 training lists. Some of the service commitment lists will be carried out at the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby. There are no fixed Ward duties and no general medical on call duties. The appointee will participate in the GI bleed on call rota (1:5) to gain experience of acute GI bleeds.
