OCU Hornbill (Part of the OCU Group)currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HVJointer. As we continue to grow through 2024 this has provided uswith an opportunity to grow and develop our team based inNeath.

You will be responsible for installingmaintaining and repairing jointing and terminating of high and lowvoltage cabling systems working from technical drawings support andcarry out departmental Projectwork.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out HV &LV Cabling works installation work efficiently in accordance withthe National Working Rules for Electrical Contacting Industry andother relevant legislations.
  • Ensure all work isinstalled in a safe manner that will not present harm or danger toothers.
  • Joint and Connect Cabling to circuitbreakers transformers or othercomponents.
  • Inspect HV&LV Cablingsystems equipment and components to identify hazards defects andthe need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance withcodes.
  • Advise management on whether continuedoperation of equipment could behazardous.
  • Conduct routine inspections andtesting of high voltage cable systems to identify potential issuesand ensure optimal performance.
  • Utilize testingequipment to diagnose and troubleshoot faults ensuring timely andaccurate resolution.
  • Adhere to strict safetyprotocols and guidelines during all jointing and maintenanceactivities.
  • Implement safety measures toprotect personnel equipment and the surroundingenvironment.
  • Maintain accurate records of alljointing activities including diagrams test results anddocumentation of materials used.
  • Generatereports detailing the status of cable systems and any recommendedrepairs or upgrades.
  • Coordinate with projectmanagers engineers and other team members to ensure seamlessexecution of jointing projects.
  • Communicateeffectively with clients and stakeholders regarding projecttimelines progress and any potentialissues.

Skill andExperience:

  • Must havebeen a registered apprentice or undergone some equivalent method oftraining and have had practical training in electrical installationwork.
  • Must have obtained an NVQ Level 3 inelectrical installation work.
  • Must have hadexperience working as anElectrician.
  • Communications skills ability tointeract with other skilled trade professionals designers andclients.
  • Knowledge of national and localbuilding codes.
  • Knowledge of energyefficientequipment and products.
  • Use of testingequipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to work wellindividually and as part of a team.
  • Travel willbe necessary.
  • Proven experience in high voltagecable jointing and termination.
  • Familiaritywith a variety of cable types and jointingtechniques.
  • Competence in using testingequipment and diagnostic tools.
  • Possession ofrelevant certifications for high voltage cable jointing and safetyas required by industry standards.
  • Strongcommitment to safety protocols andprocedures.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations andbest practices in the electricalindustry.
  • Excellent communication skills bothwritten and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborateeffectively with team members clients and otherstakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with theability to diagnose and troubleshoot issuesefficiently.
  • Capacity to find innovativesolutions to complexproblems.
