Job summary

Watlington Medical Centre is looking to welcome an experienced and qualified phlebotomist into our busy practice, to support our nursing team on a part-time basis. The post holder will be required to work 12 hours per week on the following days -Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9am -1pm.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team, the post-holder will be responsible for performing the following tasks:

Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity Checking patient identification against GP/nurse request and confirming with patient whenever possible Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team.

Qualifications

Essential

Minimum of a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification or experience; Relevant qualification and clinical knowledge and skills in venepuncture.

Experience

Experience of working in a healthcare setting, ideally within primary care; Ability to record accurate clinical notes; Consistently confidential, compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues; Ability to communicate effectively, and to understand the needs of the patient; Strength in problem-solving, with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required; Flexibility and an adaptable approach; Commitment to ongoing professional development.
