Job summary

We are excited to announce that as part of the continuing growth and development inpatient therapy services, we are seeking two enthusiastic and motivated individuals to work as Therapy Assistants in our Critical Care and Surgery Therapy Service at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.

The service is currently delivered across Sandwell and City Hospital sites but from October 2024 will move to create one team in our new acute hospital site - Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.

At an already exciting time for the organisation and the team, this is the first time we have introduced Therapy Assistants into this service and represents an expansion of our rehabilitation services for some of our most unwell patients. Our new Therapy Assistants will therefore have a chance to work with the team to shape the role within this speciality, as well as peer support through working alongside teams with established Therapy Assistants.

The successful candidates will be required to participate in our 7-day service provision and will involve a flexible approach to clinical duties as weekend working will be included on a rota basis.

Full induction and support for those coming into the role will be offered by the team and tailored to each individual and their learning needs.

Main duties of the job

Provide therapeutic assessment,- social history taking, completing referrals in the community andtreatments for patients in a group or on individual basis under direct or indirect supervision of the qualified therapist.

Assist in the day-to-day delivery and organisation of the service through direct and non-direct patient duties to ensure priorities are met. This involves the efficient and effective management of your own delegated & agreed caseload.

You will work closely with both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to deliver evidence-based patient care, which will be supported by our strong commitment to staff support, clinical supervision and teamwork.

Ordering of equipment for the sub stores for Birmingham and Sandwell area and for patients where necessary with guidance from a qualified therapist.

Work effectively in the provision of a flexible, patient-centred approach to rehabilitation that will include weekend working on a rotational basis as part of the 7 day service we operate.
