Job summary

Gloucestershire Managed Services now has an exciting opportunity for a Patient Bed Engineer to join the team at Gloucestershire Royal Medical Engineering Department at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust consists of a mixed workforce of 37 members of staff with varying backgrounds and abilities

There are workshops located on two sites, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital.

This vacancy will be located primarily at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but may provide cover for Cheltenham General Hospital when necessary. You will also be responsible to provide this service to various customers located within Gloucestershire.

There is a free bus provided between the Gloucester and Cheltenham sites and there are GMS provided lease cars available for off site work.

Main duties of the job

To be a responsible for carrying out routine and reactive maintenance on a wide range of patient beds, trolleys and cots

To participate in external Medical Engineering service visits and other projects to ensure compliance with medical equipment regulatory requirements and best practice by maintaining established Medical Engineering quality standards

Ability to plan and prioritize workload and tasks

To undertake, update and provide training on a wide variety of patient beds, trolleys and cots

Job description

Job responsibilities

Key result areas:

1) To be a bed engineer responsible for carrying out routine and reactive maintenance on a wide range of patient beds, trolleys and cots, planning and arranging workload and prioritizing tasks

2) To undertake and update training on a wide variety of basic to complex electronic and mechanical equipment

3) To supervise and train other staff in Medical Engineering, upholding working standards, policies, procedures and objectives in order to maintain those standards and service delivery

4) To technically analyze patient beds, trolleys and cots that have been involved in an adverse clinical incident, ability to liaise with clinical staff, manufacturers, Section Managers, the MHRA and risk staff to provide a detailed technical report

5) To assist in the undertaking of medical device trials, evaluation and selection, and advising on purchasing, training, operation, maintenance, repair and disposal to ensure that equipment is compatible with existing and that replacement is planned prior to equipment redundancy, thus meeting the developing needs of the NHS healthcare provision

6) Undertake any design and development or implement modifications to medical devices following manufacturers or MHRA advice, ensuring that any work undertaken is in accordance with Trust Policy and National compliance and standards

7) Use computer skills to operate the asset management system in order to record activity and equipment details ensuring that the information is accurate for both customer and managerial needs

8) To maintain ISO EN 9001:2015 Quality system Policies and Procedures, including identification of problems, non-conformities and improvements relevant to the wider area of Medical Engineering in order to maintain accreditation

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Have a recent qualification in an electronic or mechanical engineering discipline or has recent experience working in an engineering environment Possess a valid, UK manual shift driving license for a car

Desirable

Awareness of ISO Quality Systems policies and procedures (ISO 9001:2015)

Practical experience and knowledge of the principles and practices of maintaining electrical, mechanical, electro - mechanical and gas systems Competent with IT systems including Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet and Intranet Proven high degree of manual dexterity and good co-ordination of sensory skills
