Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Do you have the dedication, patience, and skills to make a real difference in a child's learning and development? Nelson Primary School is seeking a compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to children with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language difficulties, and learning disabilities.
- Work closely with teachers to implement strategies in line with the children’s Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Follow and deliver targeted interventions based on EHCP objectives to ensure each child's progress is regularly monitored and reviewed.
- Collaborate effectively with a multi-agency team including speech therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, and other external professionals to provide holistic support for pupils.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment, encouraging children’s confidence, independence, and social skills.
- Assist in the implementation of behaviour management strategies and ensure positive pupil engagement in all activities.
- Support pupils in developing essential life skills, promoting their social, emotional, and academic well-being.
- Adapt lesson plans and learning materials to meet individual needs, ensuring that pupils can access the curriculum.
- Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and provide regular feedback to teachers, SENCO, and parents/carers.
- Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities to stay updated on SEN best practices.
- Support the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all pupils.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD, in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of implementing EHCP targets and working within the SEN Code of Practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
- A passion for helping children achieve their full potential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
