Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Do you have the dedication, patience, and skills to make a real difference in a child's learning and development? Nelson Primary School is seeking a compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to children with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language difficulties, and learning disabilities.
  • Work closely with teachers to implement strategies in line with the children’s Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Follow and deliver targeted interventions based on EHCP objectives to ensure each child's progress is regularly monitored and reviewed.
  • Collaborate effectively with a multi-agency team including speech therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists, and other external professionals to provide holistic support for pupils.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment, encouraging children’s confidence, independence, and social skills.
  • Assist in the implementation of behaviour management strategies and ensure positive pupil engagement in all activities.
  • Support pupils in developing essential life skills, promoting their social, emotional, and academic well-being.
  • Adapt lesson plans and learning materials to meet individual needs, ensuring that pupils can access the curriculum.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and provide regular feedback to teachers, SENCO, and parents/carers.
  • Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities to stay updated on SEN best practices.
  • Support the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure the safety and well-being of all pupils.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children with SEN, particularly ASD, in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of implementing EHCP targets and working within the SEN Code of Practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • A passion for helping children achieve their full potential.
