Job summary

This is a fixed term post for 24 months due to funding.

If you are a Swansea Bay University Health Board employee this post will only be offered on a secondment basis and you will need to have gained your line managers approval for the secondment prior to going to interview.

The post holder will assume overall responsibility for Parkinson's medicines management in the acute setting. This will include leading on the design and implementation of processes that enable people with Parkinson's to receive their time critical medication on time, every time. To deliver on this ambition, the post holder will lead on all aspects of hospital self-administration policies; a mandatory training framework for wider hospital staff about; and the enhancement of digital services to identify suitable patients for review.

The introduction of this post has been made possible following a successful application for funding to Parkinson's UK's pump-priming scheme. This means Parkinson's UK will fund the post for two years. With support from Swansea Bay UHB and Parkinson's UK, the impact of the post will be audited and evaluated over this two-year period.

Main duties of the job

General duties to include:

Ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to, are reviewed regularly and that all necessary records are completed in a timely manner.

Ensure the safe and appropriate storage of all pharmaceutical products within pharmacy and clinical areas.

Participate in the rotas for bank holiday, weekend and extended hour's services for the Parkinson's Disease Service.

undertake any duties required by the Clinical Director of Pharmacy & Medicines Management in the interest of the service, as appropriate for the grade and as agreed with the post holder.

work in the pharmacy dispensary or 'hubs' and supervise pharmacy staff to ensure work is prioritised and workload managed effectively.

Record and action any pharmacy incidents dispensing errors.

Dispense clinical trial materials according to protocols.

Provide an efficient, professional and courteous service to patients and colleagues, including to those who may be upset, confused and angry.

Adhere to all medicines legislation, Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH regulations, other relevant legislation and policies provided by the health board.

Provide on call services when appropriate.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Post Graduate MSc/ Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent experience Member of the GPhC

Desirable

Accredited non-medical prescriber Management/ Leadership qualification

Ability to work as a 'lead' practitioner in highly specialist field. Experience of leading and managing a speciality team.

Evidence of clinical audit, practise research, implementation of procedures, protocols.
