This role offer a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist. The post has will involve working with senior colleagues as well as VSCEs and those with lived experience to develop a local enhanced psychological service to meet the needs of Adult Victim-Survivors of sexual abuse/assault.

We are part of a series of national sites developing these services with the aim of delivering a high quality local service but also to support formulating a model of best practice nationally. This offers an exciting opportunity to make a real difference within communities nationally as well as within the footprint of the service in Hertfordshire and West Essex.

The post would suit someone with who has an interest of working with individuals who have experienced trauma as a result of sexual assault.

We aim to work with partner agencies to deliver the services, including working with experts by experience. Experience of working within health care systems would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

To clinically assist in the development of the Enhanced Mental Health Service (EMHS) for victim survivors of sexual abuse and assault alongside the senior leadership team.

To work in Psychological Services within Enhanced Mental Health Service (EMHS) for victim survivors of sexual abuse and assault, delivering a multidisciplinary, trauma informed, recovery-oriented community based services for individuals who have experienced this form of trauma across Hertfordshire & West Essex, developing specialist service provision for those who have faced these challenges in their lives, working in an integrated way within community based teams and with other partner agencies.

To work effectively for the supervision and governance of psychological practice for specialist staff working within the Enhanced Mental Health Service (EMHS) for victim survivors of sexual abuse and assault.

Working within a multi professional and recovery-oriented frame work to actively facilitate psychologically informed ways of working with people within the Enhanced Mental Health Service (EMHS) for victim survivors of sexual abuse and assault and to support colleagues in partner agencies and other staff in this service.

To engage in supervision, informal consultation and clinical support within the Enhanced Mental Health Service (EMHS) for victim survivors of sexual abuse and assault and partner agencies.

Job responsibilities

To support with implementing and evaluating an embedded model for the Enhanced Mental Health Service (EMHS) for victim survivors of sexual abuse and assault in line with best practice guidelines for this group.

To be a role model for the excellent delivery of the main therapeutic and psycho-educational modalities for those working within the Enhanced Mental Health Service (EMHS) for victim survivors of sexual abuse and assault.

To support in demonstrating the effectiveness of specialist staff working with the Enhanced Mental Health Service (EMHS) for victim survivors of sexual abuse and assault, in terms of service user, carer and stakeholder satisfaction and clinical outcomes.

To support highly developed specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.

To support in formulating plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a clients mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.

To support in implementing a wide range of highly specialised psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/TRAINING

Essential

An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.

Desirable

Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential

Experience of work with people with mental health problems, in need of emotional &/or mental health support An interest in working with people with mental health problems or other disabilities who are working within the health and social care field.

Desirable

Experience and competence in using positive behaviour support, cognitive-behavioural or other relevant approaches.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY

Essential

An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a staff user context. Competence using IT and media equipment.

Desirable

Experience of problem-solving models and methods used by psychologists, for example, solution focused and/or systemic approaches.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Essential

An ability to interact with people with mental health problems and emotional distress. High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive. Ability to communicate sensitive information to service users, cares and colleagues in a way that addresses psychological resistance. An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines
