The Echo/VascularUltrasound Technologist assists the radiologist cardiologist andother physicians in achieving scans and films in order to achieve adiagnosis concerning patients receiving an ultrasound exam orsonogram. The technologist is able to provide and oversee patientcare activities to include adult pediatric and neonatal patients.The technologist is responsible for the proper utilization of allpertinent imaging information systems. The technologist will workwith their fellow technologist to enhance cardiovascular ultrasoundservices and provide innovative methods and processes to achievesuccess.EDUCATION:REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS (IF APPLICABLE):Meetsrequirements for registry by the American Registry for DiagnosticMedical SonographyMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of experiencepreferred working in the performance of ultrasound and must beregistry eligible.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Five years of experiencepreferred working in the performance of ultrasound Two years ofexperience preferred working in the performance of ultrasound andmust be registry eligible. Acquire and evaluate datawhile exercising discretion and judgment in the performance of theclerical examination. Demonstrates excellent knowledge in allspecialized areas of ultrasound. Interprets ultrasound exam toachieve optimum quality and to provide interpreting physicians withan oral or written summary of technical findings. Performs clericalskills to document and record all statistical information andrecord keeping requirements. Logs on and retrieves patientinformation in PACS/ CVPACS. Maintains ultrasound logcontaining patient information and exam data on every scanperformed by the Ultrasound department. Performs quality assurancesand infection control programs. Evaluate and document equipmentperformance using acoustic test objects. Document equipmentperformance service maintenance and configuration changes. Contactfield service engineer as needed for repairs or maintenance ofultrasound equipment. Maintain infection control and use universalprecautions including: 1) hand washing and cleaning disinfection ofequipment; 2) use of sterile covers for transducer and cable whenappropriate; and 3) use of gloves and other barrier technology asrequired. Maintains a daily log for testing and changing ofdisinfectant for submersible equipment. Changes disinfectant forsubmersible equipment according to protocol and daily log.Schedules to be on call. Takes rotation on call on a routinebasis.Carries a beeper and/or cell phone to be available 24 hours aday. Responds in an efficient and timely manner. Maintainsultrasound labs. Manages routine work schedules for ultrasound personnel.Assigns shifts rotations and call schedules. Demonstrate and educate forexcellent knowledge in all specialized areas of cardiovascularultrasound. Interpret and monitor ultrasound exams to achieveoptimal quality and provide interpreting physicians with an oral orwritten summary of technical findings. Responsible for coordinatingproper patient scheduling. Maintains consistent communication withthe fellow lead technologist to regulate the daily patient scheduleand assure patients are able to be seen in a timely manner.Performand monitor clerical skills performed by the technologists todocument and record all statistical information and record keepingrequirements. Maintains and monitors ultrasound log containingpatient information exam data and PI monitors on every scanperformed by the Ultrasound Department. Able to operate and understand thePACS.CVPACS. Compiles statistical data graphs and reports foradministrative personnel and service representatives on a monthlybasis or as needed. Educate other health care providers personneland the public in the appropriate application and results ofultrasound examinations. Analyzes new developments procedures andcontinuing education regarding ultrasound innovations and initiaterevisions when needed. Issues memoranda letters and verbalcommunications to hospital and medical staff as needed. Providesorientation training and continuing education of personnel.Maintain competency of profession.
