We are looking for an experienced Diabetes Research Nurse with primary responsibility to support a dietary weight loss research study involving overweight/obese people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The post holder will work directly with the diabetes research team based at Queen's Medical Research Institute (QMRI) and the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. We are happy to offer this as a secondment to a nurse currently in the NHS.

The Opportunity: 

The appointee will contribute to the overall recruitment and clinical/dietary management of participants involved in this study by liaising directly with the Chief Investigator and the CRF staff at the Royal Infirmary. They will have day-to-day responsibility for the coordination and delivery of this single centre MRC-funded study. The post holder will also work closely with the Diabetes research nurses at the General Western Hospital and staff at the Edinburgh Imaging Facility QMRI for efficient delivery of this study. 

This post is part-time (17.5 hours /2.5 days a week), we are open to considering other flexible working patterns. 

Your skills and attributes for success:

Current NMC nurse registration.  Diabetes and endocrinology background and knowledge of type 2 diabetes management. Previous experience of involvement in collecting clinical research data and biological samples is advantageous.  Training on weight management and dietary support for patients will be provided. Excellent time management and communication skills.

An Honorary NHS contract will be sought for the successful post holder. Therefore, the appointee must be eligible to hold an honorary contract with NHS Lothian, and must also be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

A market pay supplement equivalent to 7% of salary shall be payable in addition to substantive salary. Additionally, the normal incremental pay range for this post will be points 1-9 of the published scales (points 1-8 of the revised scale)
