This is an exciting post that offers an integrated role within the Diabetes Specialist Service at Epsom and St Helier University Hospital Trust.
The role of Diabetes Specialist Dietitian will be responsible for the dietetic management of adult diabetes patients' under the care of the specialist diabetes team.
Our department service includes the provision of Insulin Pump therapy and Diabetes technologies. Antenatal diabetes services, Type 1 structured education including Carbohydrate counting principles, Multi-disciplinary clinics including renal patients.
We are looking for a Dietitian with strong communication, team working and enthusiasm for patient group education with a passion for Diabetes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder would be responsible for the development and provision of specialist, evidence based dietetic diabetes nutrition services to patients with diabetes.
As a Diabetes Dietitian within our team you will be providing dietetic advice to adults with diabetes.
A knowledge of carbohydrate counting education, insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring is important, however training and support will be provided.
The role includes a mix of providing one-to-one clinics and Type 1 diabetes group education, delivered virtually and face to face.
The post holder will work closely with Diabetes Dietitians within the department and support with clinical development within the department.
Communicate effectively with medical, nursing and other professional staff in both acute and community services.
Provide expert dietetic advice to the multidisciplinary team through attendance and participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, educational meetings and clinical governance meetings.
Be responsible for ensuring that patients and carers have consented prior to dietetic intervention in line with professional guidelines.
Ability to utilise developed communication and teaching skills to educate the diverse and multicultural diabetes population with barriers to understanding the essential, highly complex carbohydrate counting principles both on a one to one basis and in groups.

The Diabetes Specialist Dietitian is a member of the diabetes team responsible for the nutrition and dietetic management of all adult diabetes patients under the care of the specialist diabetes post holder will assume the role of nutrition educator to student dietitians, medics, nursing staff, dietetic assistant and other AHPs as working relationshipsInternally the post holder will develop effective working relationships with:Other dietitians working within this specialist area; Adult Dietetic Service Manager; other dietitians; office support staff; Head of dietetic services; nursing staff, medical staff, patients, relatives, other clinical staffExternally this includesPatients, relatives, other relevant clinical Result Areas:To deliver a high quality proactive service to the Trust, which is based on the best available evidence and/or agreed best practice.
