Band 8A Highly Specialist CAMHS clinical Psychologist hours part-time permanent

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly specialist clinical psychologist to join the Neurodevelopmental Disorders Team (NDT) at City & Hackney Specialist CAMHS. The post holder will facilitate the provision of psychological therapies within the pathway, including developing and adapting interventions to meet the needs of the client group and their families and carers. They will also take a lead on provision of some of the psycho-education groups for the service. S/he will lead by example to maintain high standards of psychological service and to improve client care for children with neurodevelopmental conditions. They will call upon a broad range of skills and experience to work with a wide array of children, young people and their families with mental health issues. We will provide an interesting and supportive work environment, with good training and supervision, and regular opportunities to share practice with other ELFT colleagues. The post holder will also provide highly specialist knowledge and skills to the autism assessment clinic within the service, carrying out complex assessments of neurodevelopmental presentations and co-occurring learning and mental health difficulties, using specialised tools ( 3Di, ADOS-2, Qb Test), completing school observations, and feeding back to families and systems

Main duties of the job

The City and Hackney CAMHS service consists of a number of assessment and treatment pathways. The Neurodevelopmental Pathway provides assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders ( ADHD and ASD) for young people without moderate-severe intellectual disability, and intervention where there is a co-existing mental health presentation. The post holder will contribute on the development and audit of the pathway in consultation with service leads and take a lead on some of the psychoeducation group provision within the service.

The post holder will provide highly specialised knowledge and skills to the multi-disciplinary autism assessment service, carrying out complex assessments of neurodevelopmental presentations and co-occurring mental health conditions, using specialised tools ( 3Di and ADOS), completing school observations and feeding back to young people, families and systems.

The post holder will bring highly specialist clinical psychology knowledge and skills to the Neurodevelopmental multi-disciplinary team and carry out complex assessments and devise collaborative evidence based care plans, based on holistic formulation. They will provide psychological intervention as well as supervision, consultation and training to more junior psychologists and multi-disciplinary team members.

The post holder will also contribute to the wider CAMHS service by contributing to the triage of referrals and providing sessions within the initial assessment clinic.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or masters equivalent in Clinical Psychology prior to 1996), appropriate HCPC registration, and demonstrable practice in this field. Additional training in a specialised area of practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses and/or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma or higher. Registered with the appropriate clinical specialist body and evidence of continuing professional development as required.

Desirable

To have recognised qualification in established ASC and ADHD assessment tools (ADOS, 3Di, ADiR, Qb Test).

Experience

Essential

oEvidence of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in CAMHS, ideally in an NDT Experience of providing specialist modality psychotherapy assessment, formulation and intervention with clients across a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in CAMHS. Experience of providing teaching and training to specialist modality or other professional groups. Experience of providing consultation to a range of staff groups Experience of working with, and addressing issues of, diversity, including experience of working within a multicultural framework. Experience of using clinical outcome measures, carrying out post-doctoral research, audit or service evaluation projects. Experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams and if liaison and joint work with multi-agency colleagues Experience of working with schools in a mental health capacity Experience of care planning and crisis work Previous experience of specialist assessment and intervention in ASC / ADHD To have previous experience of working in a CAMHS NDT team.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

High level knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist modality to CAMHS, in particular related to ASC / ADHD. Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment. Advanced knowledge of specialist clinical models in clinical assessment and treatment including knowledge of specific modality theories and evidence. Knowledge of legislation in relation to children and young people's mental health issues and child protection. MSc level knowledge of research methodology and complex statistical analysis. Knowledge of racial and other diversity issues and factors affecting access to mental health care. Awareness of national policy and guidelines as related to CAMHS, ASC and ADHD. Working knowledge of Child Protection guidelines. To be able to competently deliver psychotherapy across cultural and other differences.
