As part of new investment into the LHCH dietetic team a new opportunity has arisen to work as a Dietetic Therapy Assistant Practitioner. The focus of this role will be to support nutrition screening, and nutritional monitoring of inpatients, in order to improve health outcomes for surgical, thoracic and cardiology patients. In addition, you will work closely with the dietitians to monitor nutritional care plans at ward level and ensure patients are referred to appropriate services on discharge.

Main duties of the job

You will be well supported by our enthusiastic and friendly clinical dietetic Acute Dietetic Team has developed an excellent reputation and is well respected within the trust. We work very closely with the Speech and Language Therapy team and this role will involve some cross-over working with this team to support patients with swallowing difficulties.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Strong communication, ITand teamworking skills are essential. Previous experience of working in a ward environment with patients who have complex needs would be of benefit.

Administrative duties will include data collection for audits. There will also be involvement with Trust Nutrition groups and the catering service.

Able to demonstrate awareness of current NHS issues. Experience of motivating patients/carers to engage in sessions. Awareness of roles of other professionals.

Experience of carrying out prescribed programmes.

Qualifications

Essential

Obtained or working towards level 4 NVQ in a health related subject OR Foundation degree in relevant subject. Interest in nutrition Relevant prior experience of therapy work/supporting individuals in a health care setting Multi-disciplinary team working.

Desirable

Working with people who have communication challenges.

Knowledge and skills

Essential

Capable of working on own initiative. Able to communicate written information clearly. Ability to work flexibly and prioritise workload. Good level of admin/clerical skills. Able to use IT skills to support the development of therapy resources
