Are you ready to kickstart your career as a Trainee Gully Operative? Join our dynamic team, where you'll report directly to our dedicated supervisor. In this pivotal role, you'll play a vital part in delivering top-notch service to our valued customers.
Your main responsibility will be to assist in maintaining the pristine condition of our highway network through proficient Gully cleaning. You'll work closely with the team to ensure that all tasks align seamlessly with the strategies and policies set forth by the County Council and Essex Highways.
Following a successful 3-month probation period, you will have the opportunity to undergo training and qualification as a HGV driver, to enable to fully qualify as a Gully Operative.

The Role

• Gully cleaning on carriageway defects.
• Good knowledge and understanding Essex highway network.
• Cleaning chambers and catchment pits.
• Undertaking thorough vehicle inspections.
• The use of a Gully vehicle
• Traffic Management operations.
• The post holder will be required to participate in out-of-hours winter maintenance and emergency response activities on a rota basis, which will sometimes involve working unsociable hours, weekends and public holidays.


About You

• A current, valid driving licence
• New Roads and Street works or NHSS 12 training and qualifications would be highly beneficial.
• Experience in the use of handheld technology (PDAs, Smartphones, etc) would be advantageous but not essential. Local knowledge of the county would be beneficial
• Knowledge of gully maintenance and scheme works.
