Salary up to £40,594 (depending on experience) + overtime (OTE of £6,000 in overtime)

Location Washington, covering Tyne and Central area (Mobile worker with van and fuel card provided)

Are you passionate about caring for the environment? We have an exciting opportunity to join our Integrated Design & Delivery team as an Electrical Installation Technician, working with your colleagues to successfully scope and design solutions to identified issues and then carry out installations and modifications of electrical and instrumentation equipment to a high professional standard.

Working on multiple sites, no two days are the same. You will be presented with unique challenges, whether it’s using your expertise to plan a job or deliver a high standard installation within agreed time and budget. All tools, PPE and equipment are provided supporting our technicians in their daily role.

Northumbrian Water has committed leadership and close-knit teams to offer support and training so that you will be competent in designing, installing, commissioning electrical components / machinery as appropriate. You will be issued a laptop and smart phone, allowing you to access relevant software packages to support your role and communicate effectively with the project teams.

You will be a fully mobile worker covering the Northumbrian region, starting and finishing from home. At NWG we recognise potential, offering development and growth opportunities for people to progress internally.

The role requires participation in an occasional out of hour’s standby rota to cover installation projects out of hours. We will ensure that you have the relevant training and experience required to do this. Additional payments are made for standby, callouts and any additional hours worked.

This role is defined as a Safety and Security Critical role and prospective employees are required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.

Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked.

About you

We are looking for candidates with a can-do attitude, and a willingness to learn and explore new ways of working. A hands-on practical approach and keen interest in resolving problems and implementing solutions is essential as it is a large part of this role. You will be skilled at managing your time efficiently with minimal supervision.

You’ll be a time served electrical technician educated to at least ONC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in electrical engineering. You’ll be able to demonstrate an installation and/or maintenance background.

You will be able to read electrical drawings, and identify, source, and install components to BS7671 (18th edition). You will understand single phase and 3 phase AC systems, level control, variable speed drives, motor starting methods including DOL & Star Delta, as well as a willingness to multi-skill. Knowledge of PLC’s, radio and telemetry would be beneficial, but could be part of your development plan.

You’ll have the desire to expand your skill set with core and module-based training which can further improve earning potential with the majority of our Technicians attaining two technical modules attracting circa £2,900 in salary payment.

You will have excellent communication skills both written and verbal and be a strong team player. A strong Health and Safety ethic is an important part of our Everybody Home Safe Everyday culture. A basic level understanding of MS Office is desirable as is contractor engagement and Construction (Design and Management) regulations, but these skills can be developed with the right candidate.

A full, UK driving license is essential.
