Job Description

IQA Officer (Electrical) – Southern Region

Full time - Permanent 

Salary - Up to £42k depending on experience

Location – Home-based with national Travel (Southern Region)

 

Job Purpose:

To ensure apprentices and learners benefit from an outstanding learning experience by conducting

regular and rigorous internal quality assurance checks at different stages of the learning journey.
To enhance the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment through interim and summative quality
checks, observations, and providing one-on-one feedback and coaching to Tutors and Training Officers
following sampling activity. Ensure compliance with internal and external standards, including the
requirements of awarding organisations and end-point assessment organisations.
To act as a subject matter expert (SME) for Electrical and related courses, as part of a team of SMEs that support the Quality Improvement Manager (Electrical & related courses).

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Implement and maintain rigorous internal quality assurance processes for relevant curriculum areas to ensure teaching, learning, and assessment practices meet and exceed both internal and external regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and share accurate and up-to-date records on Tutor and Training Officer quality and compliance using agreed reporting tools and channels.
  • Implement agreed sampling strategies/plans for relevant curriculum areas to ensure quality and compliance across a range of learners, Tutors, programmes, and locations.
  • Complete allocated IQA sampling activities (i.e., Quality Checks, Observations, one-to-one Tutor feedback meetings, coaching, learner calls, etc.) in a timely manner each month, and provide accurate and timely reports to the Lead IQA with evidence of successes and required improvements.
  • Lead and/or participate in external quality assurance (EQA) and/or moderation activities, ensuring that EQA/moderator activities are scheduled in line with awarding organisation requirements to maintain direct claims status (DCS) where appropriate.
  • Network, develop, and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders (i.e., Curriculum Design Managers, Delivery Team Managers, EPAOs, AOs, EQAs/SVs, etc.) to ensure our provision remains in line with sector and regulatory standards and expectations.
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments of assigned Tutors and Training Officers, ensuring that responsive coaching and/or performance management processes are implemented when concerns about teaching, learning, and/or assessment practices are identified.
  • Enhance apprentice and learner on-programme learning experiences and outcomes by supporting high-quality Tutor and Training Officer induction, standardisation, and ongoing CPD.
  • Lead standardisation meetings for Training Officers / Tutors, and participate in IQA Officer standardisation meetings in support of the Lead IQA.
  • Ensure observed assessments and sampled assessment evidence are fair, without prejudice, adhering to equal opportunity standards.
  • Assist with and follow agreed procedures in the event of disputes and appeals.
  • As a team of SMEs (IQA’s) for MES and related, support the Quality Improvement Manager by providing technical advice and input in activities such as teaching and learning resource development, awarding organisation liaison (technical), technical training to assessors, and partner engagement. 

Person Specification

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Electrician, NVQ Level 3, recognised Apprenticeship or equivalent or Maintenance Engineer qualification
  • Level 4 IQA qualification must hold either TAQA (V1/V2 – D34 updated)
  • Verifiable and experienced IQA with proven track record
  • Maths & English at GCSE A-C, 9-4, Functional skills level 2, O’Level A-D or equivalent
  • Level 3 Qualification in Electrical  
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Working knowledge of the Building Services Industry
  • Proven on-the-job experience
  • Driving Licence.

Desirable:

  • Recognised Health & Safety qualification (IOSH Managing Safely)

Holiday Entitlement is 25 days’ holiday per annum.  In your first year, this will be pro-rated and will accrue at 2 days in advance per full calendar month of service, plus the normal bank holidays.
