Job overview

This is a replacement Consultant post. The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multi–disciplinary team providing and continuing to develop care for patients with Glaucoma. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff (medical and non-medical).

This clinical post is based at King’s College Hospital’s Queen Mary’s Hospital site, though there is potential to support any of King’s sites as appropriate. The proposed Job Plan (up to 10 PAs) is attached. This is subject to review within 3 months of the post holder commencing in post.

Main duties of the job

The main remit of this post is to provide specialist Consultant leadership, expertise and support to King’s glaucoma services provided at the southern sites. The post holder will develop and provide outpatient and surgical services for glaucoma patients from the complex to the routine. There will be a major commitment to the new community based glaucoma monitoring service with involvement in development, training, supervision and virtual case review. The post holder will contribute to the strategic development of the glaucoma service across all King’s sites in collaboration with the other King’s glaucoma specialists with regular meetings of a cross-site subspecialty glaucoma group to facilitate this. In addition, the post-holder may work with local clinical commissioning groups to devise appropriate patient care pathways and services in primary care. In addition the post may involve performing high volume cataract surgery.
