Job summary

Due to internal development we are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist. The role includes (SLT) assessment, treatment, management and advice to clients with communication and/or swallow disorders in a range of settings. This will include providing advice to carers and other SLT will hold their own personal caseload and is independently responsible for those clients and for relating to all relevant people involved with those clients in accordance with local and professional standards and guidelines and following evidence-based SLT is accountable for their own professional action, will recognise their own professional boundaries and will seek advice as appropriate. The SLT is supported by more experienced SLT is professionally and legally responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and discharge of the caseload in line with local and national protocols and policies, RCSLT professional standards and HCPC regulatory Codes of position is suitable for a newly qualified SLT.

Main duties of the job

Following assessment to make decisions about future clinical management and intervention with access to a supervisor for more complex cases and decision making.

To provide reports and participate in multidisciplinary assessments.

To develop skills in motivating clients and/or carers to engage in the therapeutic process.

To work with other agencies as appropriate to negotiate and agree decision-making regarding client management.

To monitor auditory, visual and kinaesthetic aspects of clients' communication, adapting and facilitating according to perceived client needs, including cultural and linguistic differences.

To maintain intense concentration in all aspects of patient management for prolonged periods.

To develop the ability to manage clients with challenging behaviours, including the application of appropriate strategies.

To maintain sensitivity at all times to the emotional needs of clients and carers; including imparting potentially distressing information regarding the nature of the client's difficulties and the implications of the same.

To contribute to clinical practice, service development and departmental policy and planning.

To comply with Trust clinical governance and infection control requirements.

To work with the Trust to manage service demands.

About us

We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by July 2024.Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on 1st July 2024. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.

Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent A valid up to date RCSLT registration A valid up to date HCPC Licence to Practice
