Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Client Work

To explain boundaries of confidentiality,exchange of information and informed consent (including Three CorneredAgreements) to clients. To undertake counselling assessments. To be ableto recognize common mental health issues, substance misuse issues and draw outrelevant information needed for an assessment using skilful and sensitivequestioning. To provide expertise in a specialist clinicalarea, undertaking specialist psychological interventions, formulating mutuallyagreed contracts for counselling with clients, establishing, maintaining, anddisengaging from relationships with the client group. To select and deliverevidence-based client centred psychological treatments to meet the needs of theclient group. With experience dealing with issues relating to young people suchas ACES, county lines, bullying, school stress etc. Monitoring outcome and modifying and adaptinginterventions, drawing on a range of theoretical approaches. Counselling to be delivered in accordance withrelevant NICE Guidelines. To undertake and manage own client caseload. To be accountable for own clinical decisions andprofessional actions in consultation with clinical supervisor. To assess and monitor risk and draw up appropriaterisk management plans. To communicate skilfully and sensitively highlycomplex and sensitive information, considering sensory and cultural barriers tocommunication. To adhere to BACP Ethical Framework for GoodPractice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. To work in accordance with Adferiad RecoverysPolicies and Procedures, All Wales Child Protection Procedures and North WalesVulnerable Adults Protocol. To refer clients to other services asappropriate. When making referrals to other services and agencies, to do thisin a manner consistent with the specific referral processes used by thoseagencies. To undertake clinical administrative tasks andreports relating to clients when necessary.

Policy and service development

To adhere to agreed Adferiad Health and Safetyand Security procedures/policies. To identify and contribute to any aspects of thecounselling service where improvement can be made and to advise CounsellingManager accordingly.

General:

Administration

To keep in regular contact with CASTAppointments Team, Therapeutic Services Manager and Clinical Supervisor. Keep up- to- date records of current counsellingwork, case notes and other such pro forma as directed. To comply with the General Data ProtectionRegulation (2016). To make referrals to other services and agenciesin accordance with guidelines. To attend Counsellor meetings as required. To attend other relevant meetings as required.

Professional

To participate in the Adferiad continuouslearning, development, and appraisal process including maintaining CPDrequirements. To operate within and observe Adferiad policiesand procedures as amended and updated. To maintain membership of BACP. To make regular use of clinical supervision. To make regular use of management supervision. o maintain an up-to-date knowledge of currentdevelopments in professional and clinical practice and of relevant legislationand policies, with a particular emphasis around Mental Health and unemploymentissues. To be responsible for working within your levelof competence. If you have concerns around this issue, to speak with yourmanager and supervisor. To undertake internal and external training asappropriate and as required as part of Continuous Professional Development. To develop and maintain professional workingrelationships with external agencies.

This Job Description provides a framework in whichduties may be carried out; however it may be necessary to make alterations andadjustments from time to time to meet the needs of the service.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

Experience undertaking assessments. Experience of working with clients with common mental health problems. Experience working with substance use issues. Experience working with young people. Experience of risk assessment and risk management procedures.

Desirable

Post graduate qualifying hours that have been clinically supervised.

Qualifications

Essential

Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling (as a minimum).

Desirable

BACP Accreditation or working towards Accreditation.

Skills

Essential

Effective communication skills with a particular emphasis on listening skills. Decision making skills (specifically within the assessment process). Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines and work under pressure. Ability to work autonomously as well as being a member of the team. Ability to reflect on own practice.

Desirable

IT literate to a high standard. Ability to speak Welsh.

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge and understanding of the impact of substance use on young persons lives and the stigma and difficulties associated with this. Knowledge of other service provision within the sector. Knowledge of early warning signs, monitoring and relapse prevention for mental health and substance misuse problems.

Other Relevant Requirements

Essential

Full UK Driving License and use of a car or ability to attend work and move between clinics efficiently using public transport. (If you are registered disabled, reasonable adjustments will be considered).
