Job summary

We are looking for a forward thinking Dietitian to join the health care team based at HMP Berwyn in North Wales to lead and develop the nutrition and dietetic service. The role has been upgraded to a full time Band 7 role in recognition of the breadth and complexity of the nutritional needs of the prison population. We are looking for an individual with a proven track record of service development and clinical excellence who can lead the service, but also work as part of a team. The client group includes a wide range of nutrition related diagnoses, and require extensive multidisciplinary working with the physical and mental health teams, in partnership with support workers. A visit to the prison before applying is welcomed and strongly encouraged.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Dietitian who is keen to work in this fast paced environment as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will:

- Evaluate service requirements and develop a service plan in consultation with the healthcare team in the prison and the main dietetic service - Manage waiting lists, using robust referral criteria - See patients individually in an outpatient setting, and refer on to specialist services in the prison and main health settings as needed - Develop, run and evaluate group interventions, training a support worker to run sessions that fall within their scope of practice - Have a regular community outpatient clinic in the outside health community and be a full part of the dietetic clinical community team. - Work with the catering team to meet the nutritional needs of men on special diets - Write, monitor and update relevant processes, pathways and guidelines - Provide training to others - Lead service improvement - Undertake duties which are new to Dietetics and unique to the prison setting (full training will be given)

Job responsibilities

HMP Berwyn is a category C male training prison with a remand facility. At capacity, there is space for 2106 men. HMP Berwyn is a setting that has a strong rehabilitative culture. We have a comprehensive health and wellbeing team which includes a range of professionals offering an array of interventions to our patients. The main Dietetic department based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, a department of over 50 Dietitians and Dietetic Assistants, supported by an admin team. The Dietetic department in North Wales takes professional development seriously and you will have the opportunity to take part in relevant Continuous Professional Development activities both internally and externally.
