Cygnet Hospital Bury

Cygnet Hospital Bury providesa wide range of inpatientmental health services for men and women including specialist deaf services andCAMHS provision for adolescents.

We are looking for an Assistant Psychologist to join our Women and Deaf service within the Dunes Psychology team. The women and deaf service within Dunes Hospital at Cygnet Bury provides care for adult males and females across 3 wards:

Bridgehampton ward a low secure service for adult males who are deaf. Lower West a low secure service for adult females. This ward is a mixed hearing and deaf ward. Upper West a medium secure service for adult females. This ward is commissioned for hearing and deaf service users.

Job Role

The role of the Assistant Psychologist will be to support and enhance the psychological care of clients within Dunes hospital by assisting the Qualified Psychologists in the delivery and evaluation of effective services that meet Cygnets Healthcare objectives, national strategic and policy guidelines, commissioner requirements and user and carer needs and expectations. To thereby help understand, prevent and ameliorate psychological distress and disorder and improve mental health and wellbeing of clients. The role involves the administration, scoring and report writing of psychometric assessments, standardised risk assessments, clinical formulation and supervised individual and group interventions. Clinical supervision will be provided as an important part of personal and professional development, and additional training will be supported.

Candidate Profile

You will be a strong team player, confident, motivated and well organised. You will have a good understanding of the role of therapeutic boundaries, clinical risk and the importance of evidence-based interventions. Patience and commitment are essential, but above all youll be someone with a genuine desire to help others. We are looking for someone with a good degree in Psychology, further postgraduate training in relevant area of applied psychology and mental health is desirable.

A knowledge of British Sign Language is desirable to aid communication with staff and service users on site. Previous experience of working within in-patient mental health services and settings is essential alongside some knowledge or experience of secure settings. At least 6 months previous experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist and delivering 1:1 therapeutic work and group therapy sessions is desirable. All candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and reference checks.
