Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical Psychologist to join our Paediatric Clinical Psychology team.

This varied post will involve working within our MDT supporting children with Cystic Fibrosis (1 day a week) as well as working with children and young people with a wide range of long term conditions who have emotional and psychological difficulties. We welcome applications from newly qualified clinicians and current band 7’s with a strong interest in working with this client group who are looking to progress to an 8a role.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist who can offer psychological assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention with children whose long term medical condition is impacting on their well-being.

The role will involve working with individuals as well as families, and external agencies such as schools, mental health services and social care. Part of the role will involve supporting the development and facilitation of parent and child workshops at both Colchester and Ipswich Hospital as well as consultation to other healthcare professionals.

The successful candidate will join a small Paediatric Clinical Psychology team which offers good opportunities for professional support and development. We regularly have trainees on placement with us from local ClinPsyD programmes and an Assistant Psychologist, with supervision of these team members forming part of the role. We are always looking at how we can improve services and clinical outcomes for our patients with long term medical conditions. We are keen for all members of the Clinical Psychology team to contribute to service development, innovation and improvement.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Post graduate doctorate in Clinical Psychology or other BPS accredited training in Clinical Psychology conferring eligibility for Chartered Clinical Psychologist status, Or equivalent which gives Practitioner Psychologist Status with the HCPC Accreditation with Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Desirable criteria

Training/ qualifications in specific therapeutic models applicable to Health Clinical Psychology ( Mindfulness, ACT, Motivational Interviewing)

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of hospital care settings, including outpatient and inpatient and on occasion, in the patients home. Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different contexts. Good understanding of other professionals theoretical perspectives of the patient group.

Desirable criteria

Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision. Experience of working with families. Experience of working with children and young people in a paediatric medical setting.
