Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at The Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences - Salford Royal Hospital, part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust - for a Consultant Neurologist. The post will contribute to the provision of a high quality tertiary Neurology service to the Greater Manchester conurbation.

Primarily based at Salford Royal Hospital, with activity at other sites within GM.

Main duties of the job

The Manchester Centre for Clinical Neurosciences provides specialist and general neurology services to Greater Manchester. We use a hub and spoke model and have services at all DGHs in GM. The department has a wide range of subspecialist services, and applicants with the training to provide a subspecialist service are encouraged to discuss this with the clinical director. Applicants are invited to enquire regarding any points about which they may be unsure.

The successful candidate will join a large team of over 46 Consultant Neurologists at Salford Royal Hospital who provide outpatient and inpatient liaison services across Greater Manchester, covering as population of million. The teams are well supported by middle grade and junior medical tiers, as well as Specialist Nurse teams across the range of Neurological sub-specialties.

This post will be expected to have a specialist interest in Myasthenia Gravis and be able to independently manage complex refractory cases and treatments.

The post will also involve general neurology outpatients in a spoke of MCCN and liaison inpatient neurology in MCCN or in a GM spoke.

Qualifications

Essential

A higher qualification MRCP or equivalent Completion (or within 6 months) of CCT/ higher specialist training or equivalent

Desirable

Participation in management training course Participation in an advanced IT training course

Professional Registration

Essential

Full registration with General Medical Council Inclusion on the specialist register/ admission to the register within 6 months of interview Licenced with the GMC To be formally recognised as a clinical supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards

Desirable

To be formally recognized as Educational Supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential
