Job summary

We are looking for anenthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our community team on a permanentbasis. The post is full time, but we would consider part-time / term-timeand flexible working options.

Come and join apassionate, innovative and child-centred therapy team based at The Salt WayCentre in West Swindon. Salt Way is a specialist centre for childrenstherapies Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech & LanguageTherapy, the disabled childrens social work team and a specialist early yearscentre for children with complex needs.

Main duties of the job

We work with children from0-18 years with a wide range of conditions in a variety of settings.These include clinics, patients homes, mainstream and special schools.

This is a developmentpost, with the opportunity to progress, having completed your competencies anda career development pathway. As a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, youwill be supported in developing your core skills in assessing and treating acaseload of children and young people. You will receive regular supervision andmentorship as well as access to internal training and developmentopportunities.

Key Accountabilities

To develop and delivera specialised and skilled level of paediatric occupational therapy includingadvanced assessment and treatment of patients who have complex and long termphysical, sensory and learning disabilities.

To provide a highquality and an effective paediatric occupational therapy service for childrenattending special or mainstream schools, at home, in school or in clinicsettings.

Tobe responsible for a varied caseload of children and young people aged 0-25years of age who may attend mainstream or special schools and colleges. Thismay include a range of neurological, developmental and/or pervasive conditions.

To help to lead onteamwork, learning and development within the paediatric therapy team and toparticipate in that of the multidisciplinary team of which the service is part.

To communicate with anetwork of Education, Health and Social Care professionals and the voluntarysector.

As a member of thepaediatric therapy team, to establish and lead on collaborative practice withoccupational therapy and physiotherapy colleagues. As part of the multidisciplinary team, towork as part of the team recognising the individual roles of the other teammembers and working in partnership with them.

To educate and train lessexperienced staff, occupational therapy students, health, social care andeducation colleagues.

To participate in thetraining programme offered by Occupational Therapy to education staff.

Touse assessment skills to identify and prescribe equipment to meet the needs ofthe individual child or young person.
