Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivatedOccupational Therapist to join Commbehaven, Adult Acute Ward in Exeter.

Your clinical work will involve working with service userswith severe/complex mental health needs, using occupationally focused evidencebased assessment and skills to provide therapeutic interventions.

You will besupported by a Senior Occupational Therapist and an onsite Occupational TherapyTeam Manager. There are plenty of opportunities for professional development,through our trust-wide OT training program, the Trusts preceptorship programme,and supporting the implementation of the VdT MoCA on the ward. You will alsohave an opportunity to access the trust-wide Band 5 Occupational Therapy PeerSupport Group.

Main duties of the job

This post will be to work as an integral member of themulti-disciplinary within an inpatient team based on 16 bedded ward.

Patients have multitude of mental health diagnoses anddifficulties. You will assess and treat patients both individually and usegroup work in a variety of environments including their home.

The successful applicant will be expected to work at a goodpace, be flexible and creative in approach and work independently.

You will be supervised by the lead OT and will supervise anOT assistant.

Qualifications

Essential

Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy. Registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Commitment to undertake continuing professional development

Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork. Experience of planning, implementing and evaluating groups. Experience of working with service users who have severe/complex mental health needs. Experience of working in an inpatient mental health setting.

Knowledge

Essential

Sound theoretical understanding of OT practice and recovery principles within Mental Health settings Understanding of therapeutic boundaries Knowledge of mental health legislation and relevant NICE guidelines/ national policies. Understanding of role of OT in the multidisciplinary team. Understanding of team dynamics. Sound Risk Assessment skills

Excellent communication skills written and verbal. Ability to set clear boundaries and communicate these to others. Ability to teach practical skills to people with mental health difficulties. Conveys motivated attitude to work. OT specific assessment skills and ability to formulate appropriate recommendations and treatment plans. Ability to use initiative and take responsibility. Good organisation and time management skills. Creativity & resourcefulness. Physically able to participate in a variety of activities sports, cookery, gardening. Understanding of Health, Safety, Risk Assessment and Management Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance Ability to use supervision appropriate to grade. Flexible working hours to include evening and weekend work. An enhanced DBS Check will be required for this role.

Desirable

Computer literacy word processing and internet skills. Ability to be mobile across the trust to meet the demands of the role.
