Permanent, 37.5 hours per week

As Constabulary Armourer you will work with a team of Armourers based at our outstanding training facility. You'll play your part by making sure that all of the Constabulary weapons, ammunition, and ancillary equipment are well-maintained, serviced and closely controlled. This is key to ensure our front-line Officers have everything they need to deliver our Mission 24/7.

Your role will involve:

Handling the storage and control of the assets at Training Units and operationally, including the transportation of these to other sites around the UK. Building links and collaborating with internal and external teams, including all our operational policing units and external Police armourers and suppliers. We will support you to continually develop your own knowledge enabling our teams to be at their best.

Requirements:

Sound knowledge and experience of a wide variety of firearms and weapons systems and their functions, with knowledge of ammunition, parts, constructions, and specifications. Understanding of Firearms Inspection Standards and current Firearms legislation. Able to inspect, repair, and maintain weapons and associated equipment and be a capable and confident user of hand and power tools. Valid UK driving license- overnight stays and travel will be required to our sites spread throughout the UK. Demonstrate experience of inspecting, repairing and maintaining weapons and equipment. This should include the ability to keep accurate records and documentation of such activity. Knowledge of the safe handling, storage and transportation of ammunition and pyrotechnics.  Full UK Driving License- Frequent travel to other sites will be required. Over night stays will be arranged by the CNC.

Some of the responsibilities of this role include:

To ensure operational serviceability of all constabulary weapons and ammunition including maintenance and repair as required in accordance with the CNC weapons and ammunition policy. To liaise with other employees of the CNC, military personnel and their Range Officers and private sector organisations involved with the provision of services to the constabulary when needed. To act as an instructor in specified subjects relating to firearms when needed ., Marine Escort Group and Russian Guard Force Training. Research of weapons and equipment including weapon trials and evaluations. Be aware of the recommendations of the Police Armourer Working Group meetings and disseminate relevant information to the constabulary. Maintain armourer competency by attending time defined refresher training courses. Administration of COSHH related to weapon cleaning materials.

To be successful in the role you will need to display the following: 

Knowledge:

Common types of weapon systems and their function. Basic knowledge of ammunition parts, construction and specification. Understanding of firearm inspection standards. Have a basic knowledge of current firearms legislation (Firearms Act 1968)

Skills:

Practical ability to inspect, repair and maintain weapons and equipment. Able to safely use hand and power tools. Effective communication skills Hold a full car driving licence (Light and heavy goods would be beneficial) Have a good understanding of safe weapon handling.

Experience:

Demonstrate experience of inspecting, repairing and maintaining weapons and equipment. This should include the ability to keep proper records and documentation of such activity. Have previous experience, or a background in, the armed forces, police service or firearms industry.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Knowledge of the safe handling, storage and transportation of ammunition and pyrotechnics.  Previous qualification or experience in adult learning education and training. Ability to communicate at all levels, across different audiences, and able to persuade and influence key stakeholders
