Northfleet, United Kingdom National Grid Full time

How do you ensure the completion of planned engineering works?

This is a great opportunity for an engineer to be involved with ensuring the effective day-to-day utilisation of resources and prioritisation of work across multiple sites on all allocated tasks and projects.

Net Zero cannot happen without people like you. Our engineers are at the heart of what we do, at National Grid we work towards the highest standards in everything we do, including how we support, value and develop our people.

As the Outage Maintenance Coordinator you will be responsible for the coordination and prioritisation of on-site engineering works, we call projects. Essentially they are maintenance, installations or refurbishments of electricity transmission high voltage plant and equipment. You’ll project lead teams of fitters ensuring they are productive through working safely and efficiently. This includes the planning and allocation of works, pre-ordering of equipment, plant and spares reducing the risk of planned work not starting. This role also requires authorisations under NG Safety rules and procedures, so we’ll put you through training for Competent Person (CP).

The SAP Engineers will also require your assistance through the organising of non-high voltage paperwork such as producing risk assessments and method statements for all work activities, ensuring that staff are set to work in accordance with National Grid policy and procedures, and that toolbox talks take place. Communication with the Operations Manager, Substation Supervisory Engineer, SAP Engineers and Planning team is key to enabling the work programme to stay on track. Reviewing performance on completion of tasks ensuring a commercial focus is given in line with standard job times and budgets.

What are the requirements?

A minimum Level 2/3 recognised apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering or a Level 3 qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering with the relevant experience is required. A Full UK Driving Licence. You can use a computer. Desirable - Substation experience, NEBOSH, IOSH, SMSTS.

You’ll have excellent communication and organising skills, be effective at allocating jobs to teams with the ability to produce Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) to a high standard. Can demonstrate in depth technical knowledge relating to the electrical, mechanical, and general safety aspects of substation plant, fault finding expertise and plant analysis.
