The Home

Ben Madigan is a registered Nursing Home situated in Newtownabbey and is a purpose-built facility offering accommodation of up to 70 single ensuite bedrooms over two floors. The ground floor, Hillview Unit, houses 33 residents and is a General Nursing unit. The first floor accommodates up to 37 older people with dementia split into 2 units – Bellview Unit and Coastview Unit. We have hardworking and dedicated staff at the home from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.

The Role

Care Assistants at Healthcare Ireland play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of our Homes, providing essential support and assistance to residents to ensure their wellbeing and comfort. Care Assistants are part of our frontline team, responsible for delivering personalised care as well as assisting with activities of daily living.

Our Care Assistants also provide emotional support and companionship to residents, fostering meaningful relationships and promoting a sense of compassion; an advocacy for the rights and preferences of our residents.

Collaborating with Nurses, the Wellbeing Team, families and external healthcare professionals, to ensure holistic and person-centred care. Care Assistants are essential in our mission to provide excellent care.

About The Role

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified staff with care plans, tasks and activities to support the wellbeing, dignity and treatment of residents

  • Participate in activities, motivating and supporting residents to get involved

  • Assist residents with eating, drinking, washing, dressing and going to the toilet

  • Assess and observe the emotional and physical wellbeing of residents, recognising changes and reporting as necessary in a timely manner

  • Maintain accurate records, communicating effectively with residents and their families

  • Undertake any other duties that may be reasonably required as designated by the Home Manager

Desired Criteria

  • Qualifications in Health and Social Care or equivalent
  • Previous experience within a care setting
  • Educated to NVQ 2 level is desirable

Required Criteria

  • To be a good listener, showing patience, compassion, empathy and understanding
  • A good standard of written and oral English
  • The Right to Work in the UK
  • Be NISCC registered or eligible to register
