We areseeking to appoint to the caterer/porter. This is a hybrid role unique to the communityhospitals , that is both rewarding and satisfying, working with staff to ensureour patients are cared for in a great environment

As a team we strive towards delivering a highstandard of care and this is reflected in the feedback we receive from thepatients and relatives who have had experience of being on our ward.

Main duties of the job

As a caterer/porter you will provide a high standard of foodpreparation and service for both hot andcold food and drinks. Ensuring the kitchen and dining areas are kept clean andtidy. Within this role you will provide simple porter duties, such as rubishand linen removal from the ward. You must be able to work effectively as partof a team as well as being able to use your initiative when required. This roleis shifting working days includingweekends.

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrateexcellent communication skills, both written and verbal. You will possess goodorganisational skills and be able to contribute to the development of flexibleworking arrangements within the team.

Starling ward is a rehabiltation ward that supports the needs of the patients ,promoting independence is paramount in order to get the optimum outcome for thepatient and also specialise in palliative and end of life care.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Be completely patient focused, working together with theteam to provide an efficient and effective service.

Experience

Essential

Good standard of literacy

Desirable

NVQ level 2 in care, previous experience within a care setting

Special Skills and Knowledge

Essential

Previous experience , ideally in a hospital setting. Be able to work effectively under direct supervision as part of a multi disciplinary team

Qualifications

Essential

Excellent communication skills. Be aware of own competency level.

Desirable

Computer literacy or willing to undertake training

Flexible and adaptable. Demonstrate a caring and friendly attitude towards patients and colleagues.
