QSW - Childrens - Senior Practitioner - ATLAS

Key Responsibilities
To fulfil the obligations outlined in the Children Act 1989 and related laws concerning children in need, especially those requiring protection and those under the care of the authority.
The Atlas social worker will initially work with the Team Manager to develop the following areas:

  • Intervention programmes for young people at risk of exploitation.
  • Develop and deliver training to social workers and partner agencies.
  • Lead on complex mapping exercises
  • Undertake 1:1 pieces of work with a small number of young people / co-work with allocated social workers.
  • Provide expert advice and support.

Assess and Provide Services: Under supervision, assess and provide services to children and families in need, following relevant legislation, regulations, and child care policies. This includes complex cases.Efficient Service Delivery: Ensure efficient and effective service provision by collaborating with other divisions, Council Departments, NHS trusts, schools, carers, and independent sector providers.Professional Standards: Maintain high professional standards within your workload and promote best practices within the team.Supervision and Management: Senior Practitioners may supervise staff (up to level III Social Workers) and share operational management responsibilities.Departmental Alignment: Adhere to the Department’s vision, values, procedures, and managerial guidance.Caseload Management: Manage a caseload of children and families, including comprehensive assessments, intervention planning, service coordination, and referrals to the Community Mental Health Team for complex adult needs.
Child Protection:
Formulate and update child protection plans with guidance from the Group Manager.Provide reports to Child Protection Conferences.Use legal frameworks (criminal law and the Children Act) to protect children, including giving evidence in court.
Children Looked After (LAC):
Develop care plans for LAC following guidelines.Maintain regular personal contact with LAC.Ensure health and education needs meet National Standards.Adhere to procedural requirements for reviewing, consultation, and recording.
Other Duties:
Act as a duty social worker when needed.Make budget recommendations for care plans.Stay updated on departmental procedures, legislation, and professional practice.Contribute to team development, training, and representation.Promote Equal Opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices.
