English Teacher (GCSE) – SEMH School (Basingstoke)

We are seeking a dedicated English Teacher to deliver GCSE English at a small SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school in Basingstoke. The school has a strong track record of success, with 95% or higher pass rates in recent years, and is looking for a committed teacher to help maintain these high standards.

Role Overview:

  • Position: English Teacher (GCSE)
  • Location: SEMH School, Basingstoke
  • Class Size: Maximum of 8 pupils per class
  • School Size: Fewer than 80 students on site
  • Employment Type: Initially via Teaching Personnel, with the potential for a permanent contract within the academic year

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality GCSE English lessons, ensuring all students are on track to achieve a pass grade in Year 11
  • Adapt lessons to meet the needs of SEMH pupils, providing differentiated learning and support as required
  • Manage behaviour effectively, creating a safe and supportive classroom environment for students with additional needs
  • Work collaboratively with the school’s small, close-knit community to foster strong relationships with both pupils and staff
  • Contribute to the ongoing success of the school, which has an excellent reputation locally and with Hampshire County Council

What We Are Looking For:

  • Qualified English Teacher with experience delivering GCSE English
  • Previous experience working with SEMH pupils or students who present challenging behaviour
  • A commitment to helping pupils achieve academic success despite the challenges they face
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students
