About the Role:

Teaching Personnel is seeking dedicated English Teachers to join our dynamic team, providing supply teaching across various secondary schools in Smethwick. As an English Teacher, you will have the opportunity to inspire students, enhance their literacy skills, and foster a love for literature and critical thinking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Quality Education: Provide engaging and effective lessons in English literature and language, following the school curriculum.
  • Adaptability: Quickly adjust to different classroom environments and teaching materials, maintaining a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain discipline and manage classroom behaviour to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Student Support: Identify individual student needs and adapt teaching strategies to support diverse learning abilities and backgrounds.
  • Assessment: Evaluate and assess students’ work and progress, providing constructive feedback where necessary.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with school staff, including teaching assistants and fellow teachers, to ensure a cohesive educational experience for students.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Must hold QTS or equivalent, recognised in the UK.
  • Experience: Previous teaching experience in a secondary school setting, particularly in English, is highly desirable.
  • Subject Knowledge: Strong knowledge and capability in teaching English literature and language.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work across different schools in the Portsmouth area, sometimes on short notice.
  • DBS Clearance: Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, or willingness to undergo one.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Passion for Teaching: A genuine desire to inspire and educate young people.
