Research Fellow in Digital Twin for Hydropower at UCL

About the role
University College London (UCL) wishes to appoint a Research Fellow in Digital Twin for Hydropower. The post holder will be based at The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction at the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, a world-leading faculty ranked #1 in the world for Built Environment studies and #1 in the UK for its research environment (REF ). The post holder will join our dynamic research team at UCL as part of the groundbreaking European Commission-funded project 'D-HYDROFLEX'. This project, which focuses on digital solutions to enhance the sustainability and flexibility potential of hydropower, aligns with the goals of the European Green Deal and Digital Decade Policy Programme . D-HYDROFLEX is a 36-month project which is available immediately. This is a fixed-term contract role (18 months) with a starting date no later than 01 December .
About You (Key requirements)
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in advancing digital technology research in hydropower, contributing to the project's overarching goal of creating more efficient, sustainable, and competitive hydropower plants. This role involves active engagement in developing innovative digital tools, including digital twins, AI algorithms, and hybridization modelling, to 'renovate' existing hydroelectric plants and drive the decarbonization of the energy system. The appointee is required to have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on hydropower, digital modelling, or sustainability. They will have experience working in research and publishing academic papers and have proven experience in digital modelling, particularly in the creation of digital twins, and a strong understanding of AI algorithms, hybridization modelling, cloud-edge computing, and image processing.
They will also have exceptional project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple aspects of a research project and meet tight deadlines. As well as advanced technical skills in digital modelling and simulation, particularly related to hydropower systems and infrastructures. This role will also assist in the supervision of student projects; provision of supervision/instruction to classes; assist in the development of student research skills; and plan and deliver seminars relating to research area. The successful candidate will show excellent interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including academic colleagues, industry partners, and project consortium members.
