Job summary

This is an exciting time in Peri-Operative Care, with a brand-new Surgical Hub coming to Llandough Hospital. The Surgical Hub at Llandough will provide an excellent facility for both day cases and overnight cases for short stay surgical patients, including but not limited to ENT, gynae and general surgery.

We are looking for registered Nurses or ODPs that thrive in a fast-paced operating theatre environment. The successful candidates will be choosing to work as a Recovery Practitioner.

Are you dedicated, work well within a multi-disciplinary team and want to enhance and learn new skills, if so then come join us?

Prior experience is not essential but a love for operating theatres is. All training will be provided. This role will provide the successful candidate with a work life balance as this theatre suite currently runs Monday to Friday and an on-call out of hours service.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the delivery of total patient care following surgery, under general Epidural spinal and local anaesthesia.

To ensure that the Recovery area is a clean and safe environment for the treatment of post-operative patients.

To ensure that all emergency equipment resuscitation trolleys, anaesthetic machine suction, defibrillator and oxygen outlets, are all functioning and ready for use.

To receive post-operative patients from theatre and receive hand over from anaesthetist and scrub practitioner as per policy.

To assess pain and ensure that patient has appropriate post-operative analgesia prescribed prior to their return to the ward.

To safely administer analgesia as required following training and assessment on use of syringe drivers, Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) and local anaesthetic infusion devices. Intravenous (IV) administration is the favoured route of administration. All qualified theatre practitioners must successfully complete the IV additive course. Analgesia can also be given via other routes however, orally, per rectum and intramuscularly .

To hand over the patient to a qualified nurse on ward as per policy, including all items in situ and medication necessary.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
